Bathroom lights

I am looking for a bathroom ceiling light, and I've had a look online.
It's 10 years since I last bought one, and this was just a normal spotlight from B&Q.
All the modern ones seem to have the bulb enclosed in glass or acrylic, which will make it harder to change the bulb in future. Is this some new regulation, or will I be able to find one with exposed bulbs?

Regulations have tightened up on light fittings in bathrooms and in zone 2 an Ingress Protection rating of IP44 is required

With CFL or LED lamps you'll be changing the bulb a lot less often in any case.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
For our downstairs shower room I built a self contained Phillips LED light. You can't change the bulb but it's designed to last at least 5 years and I think it had a 5 year warranty. Not sure it's available anymore though.0

Have a look at the zones in the previous post. If the light doesn't need to be IP rated you don't need to use an enclosed one. There are plenty of lights that aren't enclosed on the market - they just aren't marketed as "bathroom lights" as you could use them anywhere!
You should consider using an LED bulb though - having to unscrew a cover isn't that big a deal if it's only needed once a decade instead of twice a year like the halogen bulbs in my bathroom used to be!0 -

Very useful information. It will be on the ceiling, in the white zone.0
