card reader collection

Hi, I have got into the habit of switching bank accounts to benefit from changing offers, as recomended by our dear leader, so I have a growing collection of so-called card readers. So, a simple question: Given that these card readers are free-standing objects, probably all made in the same factory, differing only by the colour of the plastic they're made from and the logo stencilled on 'em, does it matter which one I use? Here's an example: I have a current account with Bank A, and I log onto my account. Near my chair is a card reader from Bank B I used to have an account with until last year, whereas the card reader sent me by my most recent bank, Bank A, is in a drawer upstairs in my bedroom - do I have to get up and go upstairs and get the reader with the Bank A logo on it, before I can move money from Bank A, or can I use the old card reader, from Bank B which is next to my chair?

No, it doesn't matter which you use. They are mostly interchangeable.
To test: Put card from bank A into reader from bank B. Press "Identify" and enter the PIN for the card. It should say "PIN CORRECT" and give you an 8-digit code.0 -

In my experience all the banks with card readers use the same model of card reader, except Barclays.
If you have fat fingers/dislike small buttons then the Barclays "Pin Sentry" card reader is the one to get - same functionality as everyone else's but a bit more chunkier and for some, physically easier to use.

My NatWest reader is different from my wife's HSBC0 -

I don't think HSBC have a card reader - it's just a small pin-pad, but you don't need your card to use it.
Other than HSBC, I have used my others interchangeably (Barclays, Natwest, Nationwide)0 -
I have used my NW card reader with TSB once, worked OK. Having no further use for it, I used the CR2032 battery in an old PC to revive it.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
