I was a university student a few years ago and receive DLA due to a disability. I had a student account, and subsequent free overdraft.
Being disabled, and receiving DLA/PIP, would not result in you being declined a student account.0 -
It is the course that you are doing that is the main determinate of whether you qualify for a student account - not your disability.
A degree course normally qualifies other qualifications may not.0 -

Indeed it does, I could get a student account but its better for me to have a normal account.0 -
i don't see why being disabled would stop you. unless you were planning on studying part time. Is that it?
Yeah I study with the OU. I actually study at full time intensity and have done all the way through but it's still classed as part time. I wouldn't be eligible anyway as my credit rating is terrible (that's what happens when you have a lot of debt but a good job and then have the bombshell dropped that you have cancer) but I'm grateful that I've got shot of my godawful basic account and I have a full current account and I have two credit cards now, both of which are paid in full every month. I know others have found it insanely annoying that we can't get student accounts though- our degrees are the same as those in a normal uni and those who are studying full time like myself are classed as having 32 hours study time a week!! Compare that to some brick unis where the contact time can be as little as 8 hours and it seems so daft.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Yes thanks. Sure i also think that is a funny rule they have, and i couldn't get my student account opened until i was in the third year of my degree, which took me 5 altogether. At least you have got a job though right?...0

Similar things just happened to me with Halifax getting their Clarity card, where they had issues and I had to re-apply after I submitted a complaint. Although once I reapplied, I managed to get everything I needed set up really quickly, it's worth a try if they've told you to do it!0
