Lost my DLA - how does this affect my future WTC payments?

Hello everyone,

Long story short - I was on indefinite DLA (middle rate care/lower rate mobility) and invited to apply for PIP at the end of last year, I applied and lost and my DLA officially comes to an end on April 7th. I have no plans to appeal the decision.

I currently receive WTC, including the 30+ hour element and the disability element (not the severe disability element), and despite doing extensive Googling I can't find a definite answer about whether losing my DLA will affect my WTC claim for next year. Other than losing my DLA, my circumstances and projected income haven't changed.

Has anyone on here had any experience of this?

Please don't say 'why don't you just call them' - my disability is mental health related and as part of that I suffer extreme anxiety over making phone calls, I don't have anyone I can ask to make the call for me at the moment, and I don't even know if they would allow someone to make a call on my behalf.

Many thanks in advance for any replies, I'm really grateful for any help you can give me.

    Have a read of this:

There is a way you can continue to receive the disability element but it does depend on your circumstances.

If you cannot call them then write to them and let them know your change of circumstances.

You need to meet all theree criteria outlined here to continue to claim the disability element.

If no longer entitled to the element your claim will reduce/stop depending on your specific circumstances.

Could you use their web chat facility?

When did you start work and were you on incapacity benefit or ESA when you started work?

Were you getting DLA when you started work?

    Thanks all for your replies.

Just wanted to follow up with an update, in case anyone is searching this forum for the same answer as I was:

I got a letter from HMRC on Monday about my WTC - they've been notified that my DLA has recently stopped (by DWP I guess?) and they have sent me a form to fill out to confirm whether or not I still qualify for the disability element of WTC. I need to fill it out and send it back by the 29th April. I wasn't expecting them to get in touch with me but I'm actually relieved I don't have to face the stress of contacting them myself, at least it can all be done via a form.

Also they haven't suspended my WTC in the meantime, I was due a 4 week payment today which I still received.

Now I just need to figure out how to face the future with the £500 drop in my monthly income that this has left me with...
