Redundancy & JSA (single parent )

Hi there.

I was made redundant last week and will be receiving approx 17k redundancy (not yet received )
I am looking for work, but in the meantime I have an appointment at the job centre next week.

I understand that I will receive contribution based JSA. But a friend has told me that I should receive extra due to having a dependent. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Apologies if this is a silly question, this is the first time I've been out of work.

Thanks

If you mean a child then you claim for them via tax credits.

If you mean a partner then you may be able to claim for them as part of an income based claim (based on both your incomes). However your capital will be over £16K so this would not apply to you.
