Comparing energy prepayment Vs Bills
I know it's a no brainer that paying by a bill is cheaper for energy BUT is there a way I can compare my pre payment cost VS a billed one? I've been refused bills before due to bad credit but my credit has ever so slightly improved so might be worth trying again, but would like to see a comparison.

Just go to a price comparison site and tell it you have normal meter. Then get a price comparison for your actual annual KwH usage
The Citizens Advice Bureau comparison site is the simplest as it only requires your address and then you just click on say British Gas as a supplier and choose their standard tariff. Finally enter KwH per year and get the results.
You are interested in the new annual cost shown (not the savings from the British Gas tariff you choose)
Once you have the results, then compare the credit tariff you like it to your current prepayment tariff.

One problem I think.
The CAB is actually the Energylinx comparison site (but without the ability to switch) - now my comparison site of choice since EHL have decided to hide the tariff details (but not the tariffs themselves) of the suppliers they cannot switch you to directly.
What I have found with energylinx is their site is a little more cleverer than most, as it seems to know what type of meter you have at the property (in most cases).
e.g. prepayment or unrestricted (it even knows if you have an E7 meter or not)
So it's not quite so simple with that site I'm afraid.
Perhaps try the CEC (or moneysupermarket where the CEC takes it's data from) instead?
(Or do what I do and know a different address in the relevent supply region that has the required meter type you wish to get a price comparison for )0 -
@footyguy
I like/recommend the CAB because of the lack of information it requires and that it doesn't require an account to use. So no pesky emails/phone calls unlike some sites.
I have a credit meter so haven't seen it refuse to accept any details input. I've just told it I have E7 (I don't) but it happily believed me and performed a price comparison returning E7 tariffs.
But as you say use someone elses address to get the comparison if need be.0
