Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner please? My Panasonic has finally died (burnt out motor:eek:) and not worth the cost of repair as it's pretty ancient and will need new brushes pretty soon too. It's been a good friend though. I don't want to spend too much on a new one as I'll have to use what I made on here in March
but hope to have as much as possible left over to save. Needs to be an upright with very good suction and not be too heavy. Don't need it to be cordless/rechargeable. Don't care what it looks like so long as it does the job.

carbootcrazy - I have a Vax and the suction is quite powerful on that - when we first got it I was a rather comic sight trying to actually move the hoover along as the suction was much more powerful than the previous contraption. I was very lucky and got mine in and end of range sale so I'm not sure what the average price are I'm afraid.
My mum recently got a cordless hoover (not sure of the brand). She finds it fine for her small flat but wouldn't recommend it if you use your hoover for more than 5 minutes a pop as the charge doesn't last that long on full power.
Hope that helps and fingers crossed that you find a bargain!#13 Make 2023 in 2023 - £2085.20/£2023#23 Save £8k in 2023 - £6642.66/£80000 -
Hiya everyone
A very warm welcome to all the newbies and 'great to see you back' to all the returners :hello:
Don't forget to ask if you need the answer to anything - the only 'silly' question is the one you don't askHope you all enjoy the challenge and good luck for April.
I have updated the challenger's list to here. Please check I have your details and targets correct (see post 34) and shout if not.
Thanks for all your encouragement and postings CBC, whilst I was away, you're a diamond :A
I'm afraid I can't help with the vacuum, as I recently bought a B*sh Athlet and am a bit disappointed with it. It's light and manoeuvrable but the suction, especially on rugs, isn't brilliant. Am selling it on and DH is going to buy us a G-T*ch up-right and hand-held as our early xmas - hoping that will last us a good few years and do everything, including the car. I need a light-weight model with my arthritis and love the recharge-able idea.
Have you tried looking on the free-cycle sites - I suppose you've checked the bay of everything. Otherwise you could look on the amazing site and curries to check for last year's models at reduced prices if you don't mind an older model.
Hope all goes well with you Aesop and hope to 'see' you this week.
Well done all those who have managed to get a start for the month :T  Even a few pence helps, as it all adds up at the end. I have £4.09 to add from interest and c/b from the bank - but need to sort my siggie.
Hope you all have a money-making Monday

Thanks very much for advice on the vacuum situation:T. There are so many brands and models out there and I know from experience that things don't always live up to the hype and the advertising;)
I've nothing against 2nd hand stuff (such as via Freecycle which I occasionally use for receiving and donating items) but knowing the amount of use my vacuum cleaner gets I'd like to start from scratch with a new one not one with a lot of miles on the clock. My current, now totally dead, Panasonic was brilliant, I know lots of other people who had them and all were very satisfied. They don't make it any more and I'm not sure what newer models of theirs are like. I'm an avid reader of user reviews so will have a good search today. Must get one very soon though, the carpets can't get done otherwise:eek:
Have a good moneymaking week, everyone:beer:0 -
