trying for credit card but they cant identify me

Options
I tried to use the soft search for credit cards and I am having trouble being accepted and cant find out why.

Some history, I lived at address A all my life from 1971 to 1994, I was on the electoral role there, in 1994 I moved to address B and was there until may 2012 when I separated from my wife, I had four children at this address. I moved back into address A in 2012 (my mums house),I got removed from the electoral register at address A and enrolled on the register on at address B.

When I moved back into address A I applied for a credit card from nationwide, I had retained a nationwide bank account that was tied to that address for some 30 years, I was accepted.

I am now looking to try and get a 0% credit card but Experian cant identify me, If I just use address A as if I was still living there (never had issues getting cards before on this address) it cant identify me, if I use address B (my current address) I have not been there for 3 years and it asks for my previous addresses (address B) but it keeps failing, I don't know what is causing the issue. I have had some late payment charges on credit cards which I have always had recinded and always paid up in full. I recently also had a late payment on my mortgage which I got charged £30 for and then made the payment, this was an oversight and the £30 fee was waived.

I need to get a 0% interest for one year card but I am no longer being accepted for them whereas a I was before, I cant see what the problem is or how to remedy it if I cant access my credit history.

Any advice ?

Why can't you access your credit files - what message are you getting when you request your reports? Have you tried all the CRAs?

I tried the credit club on here, it links to Experian ?. the error I am receiving seems a bit generic...

Sorry, but you have failed the Experian identification process. This means that Experian was unable to verify your identity from the details you provided. The information that it holds on you is very sensitive so it can't allow access unless it's sure you are who you say you are.
Unfortunately this does happen to a small proportion of people, for a number of different reasons. Here's what to try:
Check you entered your personal details correctly
If any of these answers are wrong, this may prevent Experian from authenticating you. In particular, watch out for the following:

Have you entered your full name, and not a nickname (eg, Tom instead of Thomas)?
Is your date of birth correct?
    Is your current address correct?
Have you checked previous addresses are entered correctly, and that the dates you moved in and out are accurate?
Have you added a full six years of address history? This is optional after the first two addresses, but the more detail you can supply, the better your chances of getting verified.
Are all other personal details correct?
Use the button to go back to the registration process, where you'll be able to check the information you entered.

Not tried any others, is it worth just trying to apply directly ?

I recently bought a car on HP over three years and was accepted, I'm sure credit checks were done there, I have tried just appling with my marital address A only as I still have mail delivered there, namely my Barclays credit card, all my cards I have at address A & B are zero balance and are used and paid straight away.

Could try direct to Experian but as the Club takes its info from Experian you might not get anywhere but no harm in trying. You might be able to do it over the phone.

There's also Noddle and Clearscore to try.

I'm struggling to get my head around this and where you are actually living, so not surprised you're encountering a few issues.

Why would you take yourself off the electoral roll at the address you're at and then register on the address you no longer lived at?

I thought that was your previous address?

I think you've possibly answered your own question? Apart from your address history being all over the place and not matching up properly, the late mortgage payment will be a big red flag to lenders.

It sounds like you have active credit at two different addresses. As you have not lived at Address B for five years you really should get your addresses updated correctly. Make sure all your cards are registered in your current address before applying for any more credit. That should help the situation bit you will still have the late mortgage payment issue.

Address A is my birth home for some 24 years, address B is where I moved to when I got with my wife, when we moved to address B obviously we enrolled on electoral register there, when we split up, some 20 years later (were still married) I moved back to my mums address A, I got removed from address B electoral register when I enrolled at address A.

The mortgage payment was a late payment, not missed, I was aware of this and contacted them and made the payment with my card.

Address A is no my current address again after split and me moving out and has been for nearly 3 years, I have successfully applied for credit cards at that address over a year ago.

Presumably that was before the 'recent' late mortgage payment? You should wait a little while until it isn't quite so recent, and whilst you are doing that make sure all your active credit is registered to your current address as you mention having cards at both addresses.
