Been stuck in rented accommodation for over 2 years now after coming home to the UK from Australia. Trying to buy in a very rural area of Scotland, we are now widening our net and considering anything within a 40 mile radius which will sadly mean us losing the very hard to find childcare we currently have, and needing to change the children's school.

Still hoping to find something in the area we have settled, but our rental house is way too small for our needs and my Kiwi husband is just about ready to give up and ask to go home!

Oh, we've also looked at relocating to the Central Belt, but we are struggling to find houses in decent school zones we can afford.

Keep your fingers crossed for us this summer :)

The street where I live, all 4 and 5 bedroom houses, only 10% have families in them, the rest are retired single pensioners or couples. If this situation is same where you live then you could be waiting a long time for a property. Is there any opportunity to build your own property?

There's people I work with who have said they don't want kids yet they have 2 or 3 more bedrooms than they will ever need! On the other hand there's a massive surplus of starter homes in our area (there's dozens of ex-BTL being listed on rightmove every day!) This just pushes up the price of larger properties and reduces the supply for families that need them.

I work for one old lady with the beginnings of dementia. She lives alone in a huge 6 bed bungalow on a half acre plot and she only uses two rooms! Moving would turn her world upsidedown. She'll sell when she has to go to a home.

The gardening is costing her £350 a month! But the house will be worth £800k or so which will certainly pay for care. But i know many families will be all over it when it hits the market.
