I hope they won't write off my car as I just spend some good money on expansive parts last year.
Who's "they"? Are you putting this through insurance? I wouldn't. As others have said, if you're fairly DIY savvy you could buy and fit new retainers to re-fit it yourself. If not, a decent garage should be able to do it for you.

They = Morrisons' insurance claim department. Apparently they have a department dealing with all kind of claims that happened in supermarket.

I thought they will pay directly to garage only? I was really worry that I may not be able to afford the other 50% and I will never get the car fixed.

Each rubber cover had 5 nails fixed to the ground, and it was a Taxi driver who happened to be taking his break there helped me out with cable tying the bumper back and pointed out to me that the 2 nail holes on the rubber cover were not new compare to the other 2 nail holes that looked like a new rip.
All the bumper screws were still on the car, it was the plastic and rubber bits all around the inside of bumper that were teared so it was a clear sign of rip damage, bumper cosmetic is fine from outside.

Thanks for the input though, I really appreciate it!!!

I'll just take the offer even though I still feel a bit bitter. I did get off the car and could not see any obvious strange things so I went in and reversed. I could have sworn it looked completely normal when I drove in but it would be just my words and no proof. I guess that's just life. I hope they won't write off my car as I just spend some good money on expansive parts last year.

You didnt key in the drop from bodyweight.

Ironically the rubber has been put there to stop damage.

If the insurer is offering 50/50 then they won't repair it they will give you 50% of the repair cost.

I'd agree with the other posters and say take the 50%, and maybe stop shopping there! You clearly did drive over the edge of the kerb, and that's on you. What I'd like to see is the size (length) of the spaces - did you have to be so far forward in the space so that your rear wasn't in the way?

    6. The car did not have any prior impact, it had a new radiator 3 month prior this and the bumper was completely fine.

If it had a new rad, is it possible that the bumper wasn't refitted properly from that? Ripping off a bumper shouldn't be very easy to do

I'd have turned round and asked how you plan on paying to repair the damage you caused to their property

I'd say too far is to the point pedestrians can't use the bit of pavement... I suspect you was guilty of this
  • To be honest I'm surprised they offered you anything. You hit a stationary object and really it's all your own fault. There's no need to drive so far into the space - personally I'd ever go so far into a space that the bumper overhangs the kerb even if it looks low enough.

Take the money before they change their minds. Also learn to stop your car when you get to the end of the space rather relying on the kerb to stop you.
