Reclaiming PPI on Car loans where the dealership has closed

Options
Hi there,

I bought a car from a main dealership in 2005 and do not have any of the documentation bar the agreement number. The agreement was with a third party financial services company.

Prior to beginning to look into sending an SAR to the finance company is there anything else I need to be thinking about.

I'm not sure that there was PPI on the loan, I didn't need it if there was as I was living with my parents and my mother was a guarantor. Even if there was I wouldn't know whether the claim could be made against the car finance company?

Thanks in advance for any help :money:

You make the claim against the dealership, unless the salesman worked for the finance company they have no liability. If it's a chain dealer try them, if an independent, unfortunately you are out of luck as there is no-one to complain to

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Which dealership was it? Many of the smaller and some of the larger ones have been bought out by the really big boys

Perrys. They are a fairly large dealership with multiple dealerships across numerous manufacturers. The particular one I purchased from is no longer open.

    Send your complaint to

Perrys Motor Sales Ltd - F&I Department
    Claycliffe Road
    Barugh Green
    Barnsley
    S75 1LR
    UNITED KINGDOM

Their FOS stats for Ombudsman decisions show 20 not upheld & 53 upheld out of 73 complaints so looks like their compliance procedures were none too robust

Yeah that's fine then, as above, the company still exists, sale was post 2005 so they have to consider your complaint (not to say you will get any money of course as they would be likely to argue you weren't miss-sold). You would have access to the FOS in most circumstances (assuming they haven't managed to invoke some sort of time bar)

Why are you all advisng the poster to submit a complaint? This is surely premature. By his own account he doesn't know whether or not he ever had PPI.

I agree the OP should first ascertain if there was any PPI to complain about!

Probably, like me, mis-read the first bit and assumed he'd confirmed he had it lol

"I'm not sure if I even had PPI but I definitely remember it was mis-sold!!"
