Every time I try to install my new Diabetes Management software on my Windows 10 desktop I get the following error message:
Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server ‘(local)\ACCUCHEK360’. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. (17)
It looks as if SQL Server 2005 was already on the computer and the software as loaded versions 2008 and 2014.
The software is a new version brought out to be compatible with W.10.
I have looked at the Microsoft error pages and I am now more confused than ever.
I have only the vaguest idea of what SQL Server is or does.
I'm pretty rubbish at the technical side when it talks of data programming/source paths (for want of the correct technical name).
The information for correcting errors seems to be aimed at people who are setting up servers rather than for numpties trying to connect whilst installing software.
I'm installing the software on my personal computer which is at home, not on any network and I am the only one who uses it.
Thanks for reading this.

If you think you already have SQL and dont need it, why not uninstall it?
The producer/distributor of the software should be your first contact, as any changes you make may make it non standard and you may get into a "you misconfigured it, we do do support you situation", especially as it is a clinical system. That is a very old version of SQL server too. https://www.accu-chek.co.uk/help/data-management/360 Also from their web page "Is the Accu-Chek 360° software compatible with Windows 10?
The Accu-Chek 360° software versions up to v2.2.1 are not compatible with Windows 10. Only v2.2.2 and onwards are compatible with Windows 10. Please contact the Accu-Chek Customer Careline if you require an upgrade."
From what others have wrote, the software was designed for xp. A virtual machine would be one way of doing it. However your answer might be this one.... found from google, but for windows 7, and do this at your own risk.

There are a number of reasons why the data connection might not have worked and a corresponding number of solutions -all requiring some technical diagnosis and correction.
Suggest in the first instance that you contact the supplier of the software for help installing: it is after all their setup that will be assuming default settings or assumptions.0 -
Doh! Beaten by were! I do agree with his/her post if that gives you (the OP) any confidence.
Good post were!0 -
Accucheck is clearly trying to create/write a database to save the data. Their installation must be using embedded/headless SQL Server. There's nothing an average user can/should be doing with SQL Server, which is why you're getting confused by the Microsoft site. If I were you, I'd ask Accucheck for help, it's their software that's failing to install.0

Heedtheadvice, paddyrg, from the link that the other person wrote, the installer checks the version of windows, and because windows 10 is newer is not recognised. The link instructs to use Orca (or newer Super Orca) to change the installer msi.
A very popular disk imaging software does something similar, however will not install a home version on servers, unless you are unscrupulous enough to use Orca. There is no guarantee after an install it will work either as ddl vary, but it is good to fiddle with, especially when the say only works on old version, not the newer one due to the company wanting to extract more money from you.
If s/w companies designed cups, each product would have one special cup, of one use for one brand of coffee, another cup for band and type tea etc. If you wanted cold tea it would be yet another cup. All cups would be single use too:D0 -
I'll take your word for it!;) Has been quite a while since I had anything to do with SQL, servers or SQL Server! :rotfl:0

Are you running a firewall? If so disable it and try to run it again. It could be that the SQL Server service hasn't been added to the allowed services/applications/ports.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thank you everyone.
The version I have is the 2.2.2 for Windows 10.
Although it is clinical software the manufacturers do supply it to patients who are on carbohydrate counting/multiple injection regimes. I think the software has like you said installed the SQL.
I did wonder if that was the case when all the help seemed to be for setting up databases on the microsoft site. I will get in touch with the manufacturers support team. I didn't want to spend hours in a queue to have them say it was a basic Microsoft connection problem that they needed to sort.
Thanks for all your patience with programming Luddite.0
