Why have soft drinks gone up in price?

Hey,
I just wondered if any of the savy folks here had any idea why this has happened? For a while if I shopped around I could generally find a two litre bottle of soft drinks for £1. I sometimes had to rotate the product but I like a few different varieties so I wasn't bothered by this.
Recently however the going rate seems to be a minimum of £1.24. I've seen some up towards £2.
Now I am aware there was a proposal to have an additional tax on soft drinks but I didn't think this came in straight away. If it hasn't is this a case of companies increasing their prices first to secure some additional products?

Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.

Only joking, I drink them now and again.

Its probably going to be a case of buying in bulk when they are on offer in different stores.
The Aldi coke is okay and cleans the toilet as well
Also increased fuel costs and the fall in the pound vs the euro/dollar due to Brexit. Pepsi & Coke are American, so if the pound is worth fewer dollars then their profits fall and prices have to go up to maintain that.
If you can get a Costco membership, vist one of their warehouses, I haven't checked recently but it used to be eight bottles of Pepsi for £7.10, but that was when it was £1 when on offer at Asda. Costco will still be a little cheaper, you just need to pay the £33.60 each year membership.
My local Poundstretchers is currently doing 1.5L Diet Pepsi for 69p
( 46p per litre )
I swear by lidls Freeway diet cola. 55p for two litres and you will be very hard pressed to taste the difference between that and Diet Pepsi. I don't know what the full sugar one is like as I don't like full sugar fizzy drinks. And believe me I am a Pepsi/Coke addict
Sorry, I have to disagree with you there. I'm a big fan of LIDL own brands normally, but we won a pack of 6 cans of this in their 'LIDL surprises' campaign and still have five left as I thought it was vile !
We all have differing tastes, so you personally don't like it, I personally do. I saw it recommended on here and thought for 55p it was worth a punt. For me it's worked well
I used to like virgin cola. Not sure if it's made anymore? It was a pretty acceptable swap
