Many insurers/ brokers charge an arrangement fee. You need to consider the price as a whole, and choose the cheapest that covers your requirements.0

that's silly as usually insurance just continues. O'h well they just lost a customer as cheaper at Co-Op and £50 Co-Op vouchers!!!0

Contents cover cheaper than £38?
Is it worth the paper it's written on?0 -
no sorry to mislead but there is buildings insurance too!! Sure the Co-Op must be ok??0

That's the thing with insurance you have to make sure that you are comparing like with like.0 -
The arrangement fee used to be hidden within the total amount payable. It is now shown separately so as to make things more transparent. The arrangement fee is not an extra charge it has always been there it's just that now you are aware of it.0

Saga is not an insurance company but merely a company that channels its inquiries to a panel of authorised insurers - usually branded under the Saga name. They do receive commission but if the commission is insufficient for their needs (!) they will charge an administration fee to top this up. They are obliged to disclose this fee and its up to the policyholder to decide whether they wish to renew, taking into account the overall cost. I felt the same as the OP when I recently received 2 renewal notices hence a £40 uplift but taking all things into account decided to renew both policies particularly as Saga did not charge me for spreading the premium over 12 months.0

There are usually arrangement fees at the start of the policy, renewal, cancellation and anything in-between and will all be set out in the documents. This is regardless of the premium.
Did you really expect a broker to take your business and then issue your policy year on year free of charge?0 -
