Hi guys. I applied for one credit card with Barclaycard, and they have offered me a different card that I do not want. If I don't accept it, will it affect my credit rating?

You'll just have the search on your file.0

Thanks for the quick reply.
Is having a search on my file the same as having a rejection? i.e. would having a search on my file but no credit card in my name appear not look like I was rejected?0 -

A search is a search.
Anybody who sees your file will see that you had a search and will also see that there is no corresponding new account to match it, but they have no way of knowing if you were rejected or, as in this occasion, the offer was unsuitable, or you simply changed your mind.0 -

Thanks. So being offered a different card and not accepting it is as bad as being rejected, as future checkers of my file have no way of knowing the difference...

Or as good as. Or as indifferent as.
It's unlikely that anybody will bother to sit there looking at each individual search and trying to match it up to a new account ophistory One search will make little impact to your credit history.0 -
OK cheers mate!0

Was the card you were offered with a good credit limit? Either way i would accept it, because Barclays are a top bank!0

1 search with no corresponding new account will be fine. But if you done several searches in quick succession and no new accounts then this could be seen as you being rejected consistently and you trying every company to try and get a CC
No harm in taking out the CC you don't want and then holding onto it, if you don't use it then it shows you don't 'need' the moneyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Could you not take the card, use it sensibly as in use a few quid, pay it off and get a history with them.
Then say after 6-8-12 months reapply for a different version or same as you wanted initially.
At least credit file would be postive and show history with card provider.0
