No issues with legitimate driveway traders, doing as you say, heading paper, knowing - and standing over - their legal obligations.

95% though masquerade as private sellers, dont know their obligation and often doctor a car up for a quick profit and a "sorry pal, private sale" stonewall when something goes wrong.

Indeed. I didn't know they were a driveway dealer until I pitched up to view the motor. That's how it should be. It's a real shame cowboys put people off buying from them.

I wouldn't worry about genuine traders (up front with a trade name), it's the ones pretending to be private seller that you should avoid (as they are trying to dodge their responsibilities, presumably because they know there's something off with the car or just don't intend on providing any support).

I have to say, if i'm looking at a private sale car, i always google the phone number to see what else they've been selling.

Saw one recently "only selling because i need an automatic" - two weeks previous he'd sold an automatic "only selling to buy a manual"

And another was "only selling because i've just found out my wife is pregnant" - well unless she has the gestation period of a hamster, you're probably safe for nigh on nine months yet.

    I don't think she's clever - I think she's a tw-at
Normally I'd report such a post for touting, but in this case....:rotfl:

I'd avoid any trader that is advertising as a private seller. They are already lying and proving they can't be trusted so what else have they covered up? You can guarantee you'll be paying more than they did so you aren't getting off to a good start either. There are plenty of cars for sale from genuine private sellers and genuine motor traders so why bother with the cross-dressers?
