My printer has died... even when it was working, each time I went to use it the cartridges had dried up!
My printing needs are quite modest so I am considering not replacing the printer and using either an online or a high street print service
Has anyone tried this?

I don't print much, but the point for me of having a printer is printing what & when I want, plus the ability to scan, copy etc too.
Have you looked at HP 'instant ink' printers where you can set a print amount and cost? I have 50 pages for £1.99 per month. Unused pages roll over for a month and it doesn't matter if you print colour or B&W. Cartridges are sent automatically - (you do need to keep it connected to the internet).
You can usually find a free trial offer too.0 -
Hi,
most local libraries have a computer area which will allow you to print for about 10p a sheet, maybe cheaper.0 -

I had exactly the same problem with inkjets - still remember one frantic morning when a fed-ex man was due to call to collect a parcel, and took until the last minute to persuade the cartridges to wake up.
Was lucky enough to get a laser printer from freecycle, and haven't had a moment's problem since - can turn it on after a month and it will always print without any trouble. Did have to buy some toner recently, but a third-party toner cartridge cost less than an ink cartridge, and I expect it to last a good long time (since no toner is wasted on self-cleaning).
It's only mono, of course - like you, plan is to use local library for colour printing, and a high-street shop to print photos.
Still keep the old inkjet 3-in-1 around for scanning.0
