Indemnity

Hey guys,
I was just curious - what's the process for an indemnity request on a closed account?
Is it possible? How does it work?

What do you mean?
This term is usually used for DDs, but a DD can't be taken from a closed account.0 -
Sorry. I was going through old bank statements recently, as I was looking at the charges that had been applied to my closed account and I noticed that my insurance provider had taken 4 payments too many. I'd canceled in the March of that year.
I've spoken to them and they won't give me a refund, so I was wondering if it was possible to ask for an indemnity to be made on a direct debit that was taken from a now closed account.0 -
If you really cancelled, why do they refuse to refund?
Generally, I don't think that DD guarantee applies to active accounts only and I am not aware of any time limit. Just call the bank and ask, but be prepared to be asked the above question.
Alternatively, there is a 'Small Claims Court' route: Small Claims Court - Settle consumer disputes legally
Or you can try Resolver - free complaints tool*

No idea.
Sure, thanks.0 -
I would take it up with the bank, they should not have honoured a DD request against a closed account. That suggests that it wasn't actually closed, but if you have communication with them in which they claimed that they had closed it then they are at fault.
However, was the money taken by the insurer money that you owed them? If so, were you expecting them to take it from another account? if you were then you are no worse off on the insurance charges, so there isn't really a claim there, but if bank charges were levied as a result you should be asking for those to be refunded.0
