Student Loan Onerous Contact details Letter

I received a letter requesting to update my details with the Student Loans Company.

To complete the form it requires that you sign and date a declaration.

The declaration states the following.

"This must be signed and dated or we cannot process your form ...
I understand that Student Loans Company Limited (SLC) reserves the right to request additional information and/or to verify the information I have provided. I authorise the organisation and person detailed in this form to provide SLC with confirmation and further information that they may request"

It seems to me that this is introducing a new term to your agreement with the SLC in which you are agreeing to provide additional info at their request.

I am happy to provide my contact details etc but I don't want to have to agree to new terms giving them cart blanche to any information they desire to get from me whenever they want.

What do you think?

Should I be able to just update my details by normal letter without signing the declaration?

My understanding was that I had to keep them updated of my details, was there anything in the original loan terms that stipulated the method of communication?

Most of the terms are set out in the repayment regulations which are added to every year so the terms are an evolving entity.

They keep adding in more and more information requirements such as these when they amend the regulations.

All borrowers agree to repay their loan in line with the regulations as they are amended, which means they agree to the terms as they change. Terms such as this are already in the regulations.
