Where do Admin people look for work these days?

I recently needed to recruit an office administrator for the first time in several years, so trotted over to the tried and tested jobsite.co.uk to place my advert.

I was inundated with responses, but sadly to an appallingly low standard.

My first assumption was that we can't be paying enough to attract the right calibre of candidates, so I went back to jobsite and searched for an admin role in my area, to see what other employers are paying for a similar role.

I was flabbergasted to find hardly any vacancies at all, leading me to wonder -

- Is no-one recruiting for admin positions, or
- Is there now a more appropriate place to advertise for these types of position?

Any theories?

Different job, but I have used indeed.co.uk before to get drivers. people post their CVs as well, so you can go that way, rather than advertise and be inundated by candidates.
  • Personally my first stop would be indeed, then reed.

Admin positions are now very much under call centre and becoming distinct - even when I started at the council with someone older then myself she said she was rather surprised and said wasn't our 'office' more of a call centre. 20 years previously it may have been different I replied.

My neck of the woods then, I'd say that's very reasonable.

I think that they mean - admin position - has multiple meanings.

But having worked as a reasonable senior administrator I do understand the need to have a specialised role.

If you're looking for someone for a junior position then you're not going to get the highest calibre of applicants, because they will all be looking for something better paid.
Realistically are you looking for someone straight out of college and new to the working world?

I think you're missing the point. I went onto jobsite and searched for an administrator role in my area. There were none, at any level, or on any salary. So I was wondering if there are just no administrator jobs available, or if they are being advertised somewhere else.
