my first ever problem on ebay

I bought something last Wednesday, and paid via Paypal instantly.

So far I have heard nothing, so emailed the seller yesterday, to politely ask when my item was dispatched, so that I might plan to be in for the delivery.

I have heard nothing.

I know 1 week is only a short time to wait, but I'm really suprised with the lack of communication. (Yes - they may be away, or not online all the time, but have had atleast 24hours to read my nice message) I paid for 1st class Royal Mail delivery - there was no other option - and the seller said 1 -2 working days. She had good feedback, except for one slow delivery during mail strikes. I don't think there are any now...are there?

What should I do next, and how long should I wait?

Thanks

  • I have just won a dispute on paypal similar to yourself. Give it 14 days from the auction completion (you can start it at anytime its up to you) then start the paypal dispute procedure. Ensure any contact you make is direct through ebay and not by any direct email address you may have.

Get their contact details and phone them.

You need seller user id and item number

There's a few reasons they may not have contacted you, have you sent emails via Ebay messages or direct to their email, if one of those, try the other one, they may not be getting through for some reason.

You said it yourself... Keep calm, it's still early doors... Unexpected things happen, and someones ebay sale might not be a pressing priority. Also, it's really only been 5 working days, and despite paying for 1st class, I think we all know it's certainly not guarenteed in 1-2 working days...

Quite right something may have happened. If you have heard nothing in 3 days time then open a paypal dispute, that should get a response.

    Thanks. :D

I didn't say I was going to open a dispute - just asking what I should do next.

I have requested the seller's contact details (& thanks, I did not know how to do that :T ) and if I hear nothing by Monday, will ring.

The 1-2 days quoted by the seller will be the Delivery timescale once posted.
Does the seller state a Dispatch Timescale / Domestic handling time?

No - this was not stated at all.

I'd would have understood if they'd put 'can only get to P/O once per week' or something similar, but there was nothing like that in the listing....and still no communication today either :o

Hm, I'm not sure about this. Surely you could figure out likely delivery time based on what method of postage you were paying for?

It's far more useful to know that the seller is going to despatch in 1-2 days. What good is it to know it's going to take 1-2 days to reach you if you don't know when they'll be posting?

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Are there any signs of the seller using ebay? See if they have left feedback or bid or sold anything since you won the item. If they have then they are just ignoring you, maybe the item went for less money than they had hoped.
