Tell me about cats

I've always had dogs before and can read them like a book

Cats, woah, different book

So Arthur is 8 months now, pretty settled, not a lovey dovey cat but we get along. He has his routine and he knows ours

However he's been sick a few times, perhaps 4 times since he's been with us since November. He's been on the same car food all the time, same litter, and just the very odd treat, seriously a treat when we think about it

Then today he was out of sorts all day. Refused food two meal times He gets wet food, 100 grm sachet morning and night with 50 grm and a sprinkle of dry at lunch and has slept all day

He is just learning to be out and is usually crying for out after he's stuffed his face in the morning. But today, nope he's been very lethargic, preferring the sofa

How long do you leave a cat before you know the vet is needed. I've said leave till tomorrow morning and if no improvement, vet at lunch. I'm I ok with that or should I be more concerned or less worried?

Has he been sicking up clumps of soggy fur or undigested food? The first is perfectly normal and one of joys of cat ownership. The second can also be normal if he has gobbled up his food too quickly.

However, I think you are right to be concerned about the poor little mite now. Is it possible that he ate something from outside that has disagreed with him? Has he been using his tray? Has he over-reached himself and fallen badly? Unfortunately, there are just so many things that can be wrong with a cat. Keep a close eye on him - if he seems to be in pain or is having trouble breathing then you may want to contact an out of hours vet rather than wait until tomorrow.

I hope he's ok - please let us know how he gets on.
  • He's only ever puked food, usually in the bath mat which he then wraps up for me to find :)

That kind of being sick hasn't bothered me. It's just today he's so lethargic

He never even danced on my head this morning

I think I will leave him till lunch tomorrow. He was out of the house roaming the fields for most of the day yesterday at maybe he's just cream crackered?

    I'm just antsy I guess
  • Aww poor little Arthur
I think silvertabbys advice is best, it might just be anything he nibbled on whilst he was out. It might be a good idea to keep him indoors until the vet has seen him. I wouldn't worry too much , kitties can sometimes have sensitive tummys
The vet will put you straight.
    Good luck keep us updated.

My vet once told me cats sleep for 18 hours out of 24 so when you think they are out all night enjoying themselves in fact they are sleeping under a bush somewhere.

Maybe he has been eating while out in the fields? We back on to a field and my cats have even been known to bring home a rabbit! Mind you they often leave the guts outside the door so you know what they have had.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
  • What's worried me the most is they are fertilising the fields ATM , that and muck spreading. They haven't done the two fields I back onto cos they have horses and chickens in, but I don't know how far he's wandering now

Although he didn't do the head dance this morning, he wrapped himself around my legs as usual and the tail was doing the excitement dance whilst I got his breakfast Chicken in jelly. He scoffed the jelly, left the meat

He's looking to go out but I'm keeping him in so he's now sat on the window cil watching the world

I'm a worry wort I know :( just the loss of Alfie is still too raw

Sounds like he's feeling a bit better. What's coming out of the other end?

One of my cats adores other cats. They don't always adore him though! He has a very off-day the next day if one has had a go at him or tried to beat him up or hit him on the head. Sometimes he barely moves from the bed as he feels so sorry for himself. He's usually okay within a day or so.

Sometimes when their pride is dented they can go a bit quiet.

    Funny little creatures :)

Hope yours continues to improve. I'm also betting it's probably something he's eaten. Keep water nearby, maybe in a couple of locations.

Tomcat is currety sulking as pickles and tiger are playing chase WITH EACH OTHER.
He's showing this by giving pickles kisses then a smack round the head.

Pickles likes to be where I am so comes on dog walls with me.
She also.like being picked.up and loved, hidey holes, all cat toys are in her bed.

Tiger likes to be loved and will follow you round meeping to get it.

I would go the the vets tomorrrow first thing if no real improvement.
I, too, am a worry wort and my newish (6months) rescue cat was off colour for a couple of days. I only took her to the vet on the third day of lethargy. Turns out she had a small cat bite on her leg which was infected and she was very poorly. Antibiotics, anti imflmamatories and pain killers later and she is completely recovered
, but I think I waited 24 hours too long. From now on, I will follow my instinct. I would rather have a small vet bill and a certificate of health than a serious problem.

Hope this helps you make your mind up.
