Extras on a new build

When purchasing a new build, when is the payment for the extras (flooring etc) due? Has anyone experienced the money never being asked for?
Thanks

When I bought a new build flat I paid a deposit at the time of choosing the extras, and then the balance on completion via the solicitor.

We were told we would need to pay for the extras before exchange of contracts ie before the extras were bought. We have since pulled out though due to dodgy leasehold convenants!

We've been told they will need to be paid for, in full, sometime between exchange and completion (depending on what the extras are and when they will be installed).
It really depends on your builder though; sometimes they ask 50% upfront and 50% at completion, etc.
