New to Forum, i'm purchasing car through Personal Hire Contract for first time and have been told i should get Gap Insurance, anyone got any views on this your help would be much appreciated

Every time I buy a new car, the Mitsubishi salesman tries to sell me one for £500.
A car about nine years ago was actually written off, so it would have qualified, except it happened 3 years plus 3 months after purchase, so the GAP insurance would have expired three months before any way.
The GAP insurance premium for the current car was £500 for three years, sold by Mitsubishi, but I got a four year policy for ~£200, elsewhere.0
