Smart Meter - should I get one installed before a possible switch or not?

Just get ready for a very very long wait for any SMETS2 meters to be installed by any supplier.
BG started installing SMETS1 s many years ago, ( approx 10 years ago) and have not even completed 50%.
Glaciers move faster than any suppliers meter fitting teams .BG are the best and have the most employees fitting smart meters yet they are nowhere near complete.
The idea to wait until SMETS2 gets going is flawed by how poor the suppliers are at running their businesses.
Most of you will be stuck with a dumb meter for at least 10 years anyway IMO0 -
If I were you, I'd move to a provider who supports smart meters or stay with Scottish Power. Having new meters installed right before you change providers is a recipe for a migraine! :eek:0

I m not too keen on the meters used by Ovo and Utilita, the Secure Liberty meters . but once you get used to the button pushing on the meter its a doddle. The In House Display will work ok for readings even if its become dumb ,and at some time Over the Air upgrades will be enabled on the Secure Liberty meters just as they are on the latest Landys and Gyr meters so they work with all the suppliers..A meter is a meter is a meter at the end of the day, smart or dumb, they both do the main job, that is accurately measuring consumption.0 -

It took about 3 months for OVO to start receiving any readings from my meter, but perhaps they are faster now. This is exactly why I said it would be a pain to install a smart meter with a month remaining on the contract.
You seemed to think that I was implying it wouldn't be compatible with other suppliers, but I made no such implications.0 -
