Scary scam email

I also received a similar message, claiming to be sent from iafrica.com. The body of the email includes personal information that can be found very easily (eg telephone directory or domain registration).
As a password is supplied in the email, presumably the attachment is encrypted. This means an anti-virus scan would not be able to detect any malicious code or macro contained in the file. It also means renaming as .txt and examining in Notepad doesn't reveal anything about the file's contents.
So, a little unsettling, nothing to worry about, and definitely don't attempt to open the attachment.0 -
Got one today as well. The poor spelling and grammar give it away at once as a likely piece of malware, phishing, virus etc.
It's what the delete key is for.0 -
Just had this email today but address was 10 years old. Forget them and move on. Asswipes.0

I just posted an identical thread to you! Can I ask what your ISP is?
I'm with Sky but my email address is a talktalk one.
It's the first time I've seen one with actually personal details and with the card cloning it spooked me little. When I googled most of the info I found was more about hacking of actual emails but one link lead me here! As usual the MSE community have been a great help :-)0 -
Had a similar email myself today with my name and address forwarded to my Gmail account from TalkTalk.
Binned it :T0 -
I got one as well today
Hi, *******!
I am bothering you for a very significant occasion. Though you don't know me, but I have large ammount of information concerning you. The matter is that, most probably mistakenly, the data of your account has been dispatched to me.
For example, your address is:
************
I am a law-abiding citizen, so I decided to caution] you, that your PayPal account may have been hacked. I I received, that you could examine what data has become obtainable for attackers. Document password is - 8516
I look forward to hearing from you,
Jed Dahn
the file attached is my last name ******.dot
My ISP is Virgin Media never had any dealings with talk talk. I know not to worry about such scam's but it is unsettling seeing they have your name and address and email.0 -
I have just received the exact same, but I've stupidly opened it. Anyone know what to do now?0

The address I received my email on (virgin) was only known by two organisations.
First an eBay account that I have never used and second the Royal Mail survey site.
Do they correspond with anyone else.0 -
Why is that email any more scary than any other scam? Even if you don't just delete rubbish like this automatically the spelling mistakes and garbled English make it clear that it's not in any way valid.0
