Parking in South Shields

Having run the GNR and had to return to a place within the GNR exclusion zone - 5 minutes from the Tyne Tunnel actually - I can safely say that the Metro was an hour quicker. The Metro is running extra services and if they can cope with a normal Tyneside Rush Hour they can cope with the GNR

The road arrangements BTW are everything leaving S. Shields has to go via Tyne Dock then onto the road to Jarrow. Traffic intending to go south via the A1 or west to Gateshead should then take the road past Bede's World to avoid getting stuck at the Tyne Tunnel roundabout. Then it's a case of following the signs

If you want to go south on the A19 it's probably easier to take the above route and then take the road to Sunderland when you reach the A184 roundabout

Going north - good luck and have plenty of fuel in the tank as it's going to be a long wait.

As I'll be in the exclusion zone tomorrow, I'm seriously considering taking the SOUTHERN route along the A194 / A194(M) then take the A1 past the Metrocentre to get to Edinburgh

Well all was well today, got there early and there was plenty of places to park in the centre, parking was free too.

Getting from the finish to the car was a bit of a trek but the wait getting out South Shields wasn't that bad and we were out in pretty quick time. Ended up driving to the A19 and then North through the Tyne Tunnel.

I am glad I didn't park in Newcastle, the queue for the Metro was huge and the ferry was just as bad.
