Mortgage Application - Maternity and no proof of commission

My wife and I are in the process of trying to get a mortgage.
We have sold our property and put a reservation fee down on a new build property.
We have been dealing with the builders recommended mortgage brokers New Homes.
My wife has just returned to work following Maternity leave. She currently works as a Hair Stylist and receives a basic salary (which is minimum wage) and a percentage commission. We've been told by New Homes that all of their lenders require the last 3 months worth of pay slips as evidence of a consistently paid commission. However, as she has only gone back to work this month her 3 most recent pay slips are SMP only. The broker has told us that in light of this we can only use her Basic Salary when applying for a mortgage. This means that we are not meeting any lenders affordability criteria.
Has anyone else come across this scenario before? How, if possible, did you get around it?

Lenders will require evidence of income. Your word alone will not suffice.0
