Laptop speakers really crackly

My laptop speakers arent great, but even on a low volume sound crackly and almost as though theyve blown? Is there anything I can check or do to improve the sound please?

plug in headphones, or ear buds if the cracking goes away then i would think speakers or cabling. If the crack is still there, then would think drivers.
if it is speakers like I am beginning to have issues with, you may be better off going for bluetooth enabled ones, or a sound bar, or one of those desktop tub units.0
