Funny isn't it? We appear more than happy to do water pipe work because it's usually a simple diy job yet gas pipe work is just as easy, probably even easier considering that gas pressure is far lower than water pressure.
Gas leaks are harder to spot & more dangerous than water leaks.

Shop wants £99 to fit and remove old oven. I know a good sparky whose hourly is much less, and I can dispose of the old one.

Am I missing something? You started by saying the high street cost was "massive", then said it's £99 INCLUDING taking the old one away.

I know this is MSE, but that isn't massive by any measure as it will probably be two people (H&S rules about lifting the ovens) for an hour, plus disposal fees.

Getting rid of the old one is something I can sort, effective price to install new oven therefore £99.

Anyway, back to the ORIGINAL question.

Are there various types of connections at the back? and so would I need a similar oven to the current one?

Gas leaks are pretty easy to spot by both smell and a bit of soapy water and a water leak onto electric can be 'interesting'
