HSBC Switch Incentive & Direct Debits

Am I right that you can receive the HSBC switching reward even if you don't have any live direct debits on the bank account you are switching?

No idea whether you're right or not;).

    What do the T&Cs say?

I've read them but I'm just not sure how to interpret it.
"with a minimum of 2 Direct debits/Standing Orders within 30 days of account"

Because it says "within 30 days of opening the account" it suggests you can do this manually yourself after switching.

The switch must consist of at least 2 direct debits
    and
The switch must be completed within 30 days

Adding Direct Debits to your account isn't 'switching' as far as they're concerned (they have no idea if they were swtiched).

You could do it without, probably not get paid and then argue the toss or you could just jump through the arbitary loopholes. I'd say the latter is a more effective use of your time!

You're not quoting from the T&Cs but from the general blurb. Condition 4(c) provides your answer.

I know it was, I received the pack and had a quick read but I just wasn't sure.

    Thanks for your help.

that doesn't even make grammatical sense why would you want to switch to a bank that can't even write their own marketing literature properly

Yes and then chances are they will freeze the account saying it is 'under review' for 3 months so don't bank on spending that £200 anytime soon

Nah, best to wait until it's paid.
