Central heating insurance?

Options
Hi

Anyone got any experience with British Gas central heating insurance? We need some due to our dodgy boiler which is only three years old! Hate to go to BG because of their dreadful customer service. Anyone know of any other good providers?

TIA

I've had British Gas homecare insurance on my ch & boilers in the various houses I've owned over the years & have to say I don't think you can beat them.

Whenever I've had a problem they have been very prompt with call outs & a couple of times when radiators have failed they have been replaced at no extra cost to me.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I have the BG cover and have found it to be very good, we even got them out on Boxing Day last year.

I did try an alternative but it was a case of getting job numbers and phoning contractors etc, etc. It was terrible so we went back to BG.;)

Our cover has more than paid for itself over the time we've had it.
  • As much as I find BG expensive. I find the engineers really efficient and polite. The only problem I've had is them phoning a few times a year trying to flog me extra cover!

    I would recommend them though.

I'd recommend BG too. Don't forget, the price of the annual insurance also includes a full annual service at no extra cost so you can factor that as a 'saving'.

Also, if something *BIG* goes wrong, it's fixed at no cost to you. I had the hot water tank spring a leak a couple of years ago. They came out on a Sunday evening to drain it to stop more leaking everywhere and replaced it two days later at at no cost to me. That repair alone made up for the previous three years annual payments.

Not anymore it doesn't. These days it includes a and i quote from http://www.britishgas.co.uk//products-and-services/maintenanace-and-breakdown-care/homecare100.html

"Yearly Safety and Maintenance Inspection" which isnt quite the same thing as a full service.

I was thinking about joining the BG scheme myself until i read this http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money-savers/article.html?in_article_id=408713&in_page_id=5
and other comments around the web. Thinking now that i may keep the cash and self insure

Be very careful with heating insurance - there are so many "Mickey Mouse" policies its disgusting. My OH used to work for Servowarm (who then became Homeserve and now taken over by NPower !). When they were just Servowarm he said they were great and really looked after their customers. When HS took them over things changed somewhat, it became more target based, prices increased, the time allocated to the engineer for a service was cut (never mind a repair job), they also had to cover other insurance policies (like Home Hotline, Directline etc) and he was forever explaining to those customers to read the small print as their supposed "full cover" policies didn't actually cover much at all. Needless to say, now that he has become self employed, a lot of his old customers and/or the 'chargeable' customers, have not renewed their policies and use him directly !

I suppose the moral of the story is always read the small print
