Santander and a regular current account

Hi
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on Santander turning my son down for a regular current account.
My son is 19 years of age and in full time employment. He made an appointment at the local Santander and initially was sent a debit card etc regarding this account. He did not want an overdraft.
He has no credit cards and currently is saving money every month into an Help to Buy ISA with Halifax.
When the debit card arrived he tried to change the pin number but he was blocked. When he queried this with the branch they recommended him to contact the fraud team. He has now received a letter from Santander stating they have withdrawn their decision to offer him an account. In the letter turning him down they have stated that they use information held by a number of organisations i.e. CIFAS, Experian Ltd, Equifax Ltd (6 listed in all).
Does anyone have experience of this? And what do you recommend? He doesn’t want to apply for another account with a bank in case he is turned down again.
Many thanks for your time.

Does he really need Santander? Why not Halifax?yorkshire_grafter wrote: »He has no credit cards and currently is saving money every month into an Help to Buy ISA with Halifax.

Thanks for replying. There isn't a Halifax branch in our town. Basically, his wages go into a current account with Halifax and then a SO for his ISA. He wants to set up a current account with a local branch and have a SO each week into a new account just for spends i.e. running his car, beer etc.0

Very good question. I've been with an internet bank since 1999 and had no need for one. Seems pointless when you can also use post office for cash transactions and cheques by post.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
