Drowning in spam postal mail

Hello Everyone
How can we stop my partners Dad from receiving hundreds of spam letters and catalogues each week?
We don't know if he has accidentally signed up for things via charities etc but he is in hospital and we need to prevent him from getting all this horrible junk mail going forward. Has anybody got any tips please? Is there a preference service for postal mail at all?
Thanks in advance? Fuzz

You want the MPS - http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/
However, this won't stop mail from any companies he has signed up to received mail from. You will need to contact those individually.0 -

I use this and it seems to work quite well, certainly for legitimate companies.
If I get any other unwanted mail I put it in the post:
Return to sender - unwanted mail.
or
Return to sender - moved away (for the really persistent ones).
I find this works quite well, but you may need to do this for several months if there are high volumes of letters.0 -
Mail preferential service will stop a lot of it. He also needs to stop doing questionnaires and responding to cold calls.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Quite a lot of the catalogues etc have free numbers for ordering, you can phone them up and ask them to stop.
Others will have freepost envelopes, you can write 'no more mail' on the order form and send it back to them.
I don't think anything stops Healthy Living Direct though.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
