insuring a new car while holding a provisonal licence

My friend is buying her first new car but does not have a full driving licence, provisional only.
It will be me(full licence) driving it all the time.
We are both over 25(well over)
I know she can get cover temporarily but only if she is with someone who has annual insurance already,(me ideally, which I don't)does anyone know if she can still get annual car insurance with me as named driver ?
thank you

The learner policies i looked at excluded other drivers to be cheap. It covered the learner only. But i could have insured a car for about £400 for the year or upto the point they passed their test.
You could only drive it 3rd party covered by your driving other cars option if you have that?
Not sure why you think anyone has to have another policy in force for a learner to insure a vehicle?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
thank you for the reply. You said "Not sure why you think anyone has to have another policy in force for a learner to insure a vehicle?" That info came from Aviva because they would only insure a learner if they had a fully insured driver next to them. Probably they assumed that driver would be an Instructor.0

Looks like Aviva's product is for someone learning to drive in another person's car - not their own car.
Have you tried just running a quote through a comparison site?0 -
yes I have and they quote an average of £1600. Having a clean licence, over 25 but only ever driven company vehicles along with zero no claims bonus may cause such a high price.0

Have you tried it in her name?0

yes,but not much cheaper0

The answer to your question is that she can get annual car insurance with you as a named driver.0 -

A learner policy that doesnt allow any other drivers can be cheaper but they are limited and wont cover the whole country. Only certain postcodes appear to be accepted. But that policy ends when they pass their test.
More cost effective to put the money towards more lessons? People have had issues building no claims on learner policies.
You say i past my test yesterday but have 1 years no claims. Fairly often the computer says no.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If you will be driving it all the time, you have to make sure you're named as the main driver on the policy, with her as the named driver. If she won't be driving it, then she doesn't need to be insured on the car.0
