Wondering if anyone has dealt with these companies.

Have a debt with Next who just send monthly reminders about setting up a payment plan but nothing else. I haven't paid them for about 6 months.

Capital One debt was being managed by someone and been passed back to the original creditor. Again not paid them anything for a few months and not heard from them.

Anyone know what to expect as slightly concerned why both are so quiet?!

They do tend to go quiet if you ignore them.

They like to concentrate on people who engage with them, so they get paid.

Sometimes they just don't bother chasing a debt, sometimes they sell it on again, debt collection is a very slow process.

DMP was all set up about 3 weeks ago and the first payment comes out on Monday, we've had letter today from creation and 2 from NCO (littlewoods & very) saying they'll work with our payment plan - creation said only for 12 months but I assume that will be reviewed when we do our next i&e review. I feel relieved as had assumed it would be a bun fight with everyone - I know it won't be plain sailing but it's such a relief to have positive feed back first! Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly - thank you to this thread - it has saved me from going crazy with worry!

    Guys,

If you want your accounts to default as soon as possible, the best way is to just not pay anything.

The debt collection process can take a very long time, the creditor will go through their usual collection procedures, calls, letters etc, makes no odds if you keep in touch or not, eventually the accounts will default, and then most likely sold.

It's at the point the new creditor contacts you, that you make your payment arrangement.

Original creditors don't usually take legal action, they simply sell the debt on, that's the usuall procedure 99% of the time, obviously keep your eyes open and read the letters you receive, and act accordingly, but to get your accounts defaulted, then that's what you need to do.

What if you've already just begun a DMP? How can I get mine to default sooner or is that not possible now?

That's a difficult one, usually a creditor will default after 3/6 missed contractural payments, but this does not always happen.

There is nothing stopping you writing to your creditors asking them to default you ASAP.

In fact I advise that's what you do.

Okay.. after much thought and on taking advice (here) - I've decided to 'bite the bullet' - eek!

Have been fairly okay just letting the DMP run along although the payments have been, of late, a little punishing. I blame no-one other than myself for believing it best to just cope and pay off our debts as soon as humanly possible. I posted, following our last review, that we were now on our 1 year countdown and did a little :j

We've now had a PPI success that's been a bit of a catalyst, in so far as I now feel more able to go self-managed and control what we pay so that we will be in a position to do some F&Fs. Advice is that we'd be more successful if we dropped DCA payments down to 'tokens' and although I'm a little worried about the repercussions - I am now convinced that's the way to go.

That gives us breathing space and options and whilst I'm nervous I'm not anxious as I was 4+ years ago.

    Wish me luck :)
  • This month's DMP payment has now paid off all the interest that Capital One had added prior to me setting up my plan, so from now on I'll actually be paying off my debt which feels so good!!
Got into a payday loan cycle at Uni. Started DMP April 2017. Current debt: £8,038.12. DFD November 2021 but hopefully sooner with a payrise September 2017.

Grrr seems like PRA(T) are the goto buyers of bad debt at the moment. My two biggest debts have been sold to them.

As soon as they go from debt manager to full owner they certainly change tack. Hassle Hassle Hassle, always threatening legal action in their letters.

They have just hoovered up another and I noticed an 0800 number ringing, thinking it was BT for an issue we have I answered only for a very gruff agent to say this is PRA(T) and we need to discuss your account.

Queue, my instant tirade, how many times must I tell you to do this in writing? I pay you, I communicate with you, I don't hide, you have my financial statements, nothing has changed, but you CANNOT phone me. Remove this number now? And do you know his response?

OK we will remove this number after this call, but can we just discuss your account, however I need to go through security.

These people are simply bottom feeding morons and do you know what I enjoy the game now.

Told him to write to me, and hung up.

    Brightened my morning anyway :D

Other than that, its all ticking over, hopefully gearing for mass F&Fs at the end of 2018 as planned, so happy DMPing.

I just tell them I don't give out security information on the phone... that shuts them up!

    Hi Sourcrates

Please can you help me. I posted previously that Arrow Global had not added a default to my file. I wanted them to add the default back to 2011 when I started my DMP which would mean it would drop off this year. But instead they've only added a AP marker.
So I wrote to them to complain and today received a letter. This was their response:

We can confirm Arrow Global acquired this Santandar account on the 17th May 2013 as a non-defaulted account.

The account had a minimum contractual payment of £13.18 due every month. As you adhered to this contract, the payments will show as up to date on your credit file.

This account is now closed on our system as partially settled as of 2nd June. The account will remain on your credit file for six years from date of satisfaction.

What can I do about this default date? Do I have a leg to stand on? How can I get a default date added?

    Thanks for the help
