    Hi,

You do not have to do anything you are uncomfortable with, if they ask, just refuse, or say you'd rather not.

You can say No to them you know.

Thank you Sourcrates - I love the way you always make everything sound so simple, which of course it is when I can think properly....

Good grief... NO... seriously a DMP is an informal arrangement. Only 'share' what you want others to see. It's your plan. The new GDPR legislation has really tightened up the sort of information companies are allowed to hold/ask for and so I think that really helps folks like us. Don't be bullied by creditors or feel they have the upper hand.. they do not.

That's great - thank you. To be fair, all creditors so far have been very understanding of my situation. It's my own perception of it that makes me worry.

..... My DMP payments started in May (so I've paid 3 so far). But I didn't start an emergency fund as I was too scared to delay it. Now I find I've completely screwed up my I&E and am struggling to make ends meet each month. Is it possible to review it already? Doesn't help that my wage has gone down by £50 a month due to a change in role either

A DMP has to be 'affordable' and so if you've made your budget too tight - you need to go back and get it reviewed now, don't struggle on for the rest of the year. Tell them about your drop in wages and also see if you can up some of your expenses and reduce your monthly payment. Also ask for a payment break to allow you to get some money in your EF. Hopefully your DMP agent will understand and help you out here - but if you find otherwise then you should consider going self-managed. Plenty of us are and we can help you with it, if needs be. At the end of the day this is your DMP and it has to work for YOU.

Glad to see everyone is progressing on here :-)
my first step change payment came out couple of weeks ago.
When I set up the dmp with stepchange I didnt include all of my debts as I was planning to pay some of them off, but that simply didnt happen, :-(
So I have looked at the nedcab website and setting up the remaining debts through them myself, and must say if anyone is looking to take on a dmp by your selves, the webcab website is so easy, you go through everything step by step and all the letters are there for you to use.

However I am stuck with drafty, I called them 3 weeks ago to explain my financial difficulty and spoke to a very nice Indian lady, but to be honest I really struggled to understand what she was saying to me!, it was something along the lines of call this number 01422 315 214 when I am ready to start the plan, or something like that ! I have googled the number and it is for credit resource solutions. But I am reluctant to call them, as thought I had got all the phone calls out the way now :-( I would much rather write, I just wondered if anyone else had any dealings with drafty or Credit resource solutions? and what the process was.

Since my phone call to them I have had quite a few email's and texts saying that my payment is late and to call them now to pay!. so would like to get this set up asap.

    Hi

First lesson of debt management Julies, do everything in writing, that way a clear message is passed between you, and your creditors, you have written evidence of whats been agreed in the form of a paper trail, no chance of saying or agreeing to the wrong thing, and of course its recommended best practice for anything of a legal nature.

The comms you are getting now are standard automated responses to your non payment, they can be ignored, but you may find keeping in touch with your creditors, by letter, explaining what you are doing and when, may mean you experience less stress over what really is a simple process.

Debt is just another one of life’s problems to solve, ideally there should be no fear or stress involved, the solutions to solve it are available to everyone, I find the simpler you keep things, the easier it is for people to engage with the process.

You do not have to be at a creditors beck and call, if your not happy providing certain information, then just say so, after all, what are they going to do ?

Do things in a way that suites you.

I wondered if someone could help me please. I feel so stupid and sick. I have been in debt for a while which started with a job loss many years ago. I!!!8217;ve been juggling money since

I got to the point where I was taking out pay day loans to cover over loans. I took out 3 just a couple of weeks ago to pay off others. I probably wasn!!!8217;t in the right emotional state after a recent close passing in my family. Losing control I gambled to win back and got in a worse situation. Being emotional, irrational and not thinking I took out a further payday loan so I could pay my priority bills. My head wasn!!!8217;t in the right place and the figures didn!!!8217;t match up but it wasn!!!8217;t till the morning when I put pen to paper to clear my head I realised how deep I was.

I self excluded from all gambling sites. Went through my budgets and what was owed and for the first time noticed I wouldn!!!8217;t be able to make next months payments

Id defaulted on a card anyway, missing a payment on the day of the funeral some weeks before and enough was enough. I want to turn my life around. I!!!8217;m so sick to my stomach on how I fell to pieces in this last 6 weeks

I contacted step change the very next day and worked out I owe 32k and I can afford repayments of £892. I!!!8217;ve sent all my documents off to SC and waiting for the plan to be set up. In the mean time I!!!8217;ve contacted all my creditors to notify them

I realise now I maybe should have let some accounts default while I made token payments and saved emergency funds but too late for that now

I!!!8217;m worried sick of my plan being rejected and getting CCJs as I have these 4 payday loans that I haven!!!8217;t made first payment on esp as one was taken out a few days before my DMP. Any advice? Can!!!8217;t eat or sleep

    Thanks

Take a deep breath and try to relax and calm down. Easy said than done, I know but seriously you have done the hardest bit of contacting SC and starting the ball rolling with your DMP.

I took loads of cash from each of my credit cards days before starting my DMP and nothing bad ever came from it. I've read lots of people on here who took payday loans and then within days entered a DMP - again, nothing bad came from it.

Please try to calm down and just take each day as it comes. Whatever comes through the post - let us know and we will all help.

Make sure you have written to all your creditors and told them of your DMP and make sure you include the sentence 'I do not give you permission to phone me and all communication regarding this account must be done in writing'. Provided you keep in contact creditors have to adhere to this request.

Well done on making a good start. Make sure you don't bank where you have any debts - if you do then only a new, basic bank account somewhere else asap.

  • I've send out the initial letters to all my creditors stating that I am in financial difficulty and asking to freeze interest/charges for 30 days, I've heard back from some but not all. I have the I&E and offers letters ready to go - should I send these out to the creditors that have responded, as I feel this will be a sign of good faith, or should I wait until I have heard back?

thank you for taking the time to respond... I'll give them a ring this week (or do it online and email them.. I'm not good on the phone). I feel like I've majorly screwed up, esp so soon into it all. I might look into the self management but don't feel I'm ready for that just yet, maybe in a year or so once the debt gets down a bit. I felt so bouyant when I first started it all, and although I've had no major issues with creditors (defaults are coming in nicely) I've just hit a low point with it all.
