One of my creditors has 'reviewed' my account and decided they didn't deal with it correctly when I entered my DMP. Apologies and £500 credited to the account as compensation. This debt is still with the original creditor.

Hi,
I have been on my DMP with step-change for 2 months now and it's all going smoothly. :j I just wondered if it was at all possible to just pay off some of my smaller loans completely? I (stupidly) got a few pay day loans and most of them are for less than £200.
Would I just be able to pay them in full and change the balance on my DMP to £0? I know that step change like to treat creditors equally so would advise against this. It'll just be a little extra a month to go to my other larger debts.
I don't know what I would have done without this forum, I've spent hours going through the pages! Makes everything far less daunting!0 -

Pay what you want to who you want to :j
I had a debt with Very (Catalogue) when I started my DMP with SC. If I didn't pay it off within months it was going to attract a lump of buy now pay later interest. I just kept paying them extra (directly to Very and not through SC) as and when I could. They still got a monthly DMP sum from SC. I just kept changing the balance owing on my SC DMP webpage until it eventually zeroed.
I never said a word to SC about it.DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -

My payment is only £69 and I could afford to pay it but I!!!8217;ve no idea how long I could be unemployed for....Working towards a debt free life!

It's nice to receive post sometimes
Congratulations:beer:. I agree it's sometimes nice to receive post;). Was yours unsolicited or as a result of you asking for redress?
One of my creditors did the same with me although not for quite as much as you received. Cheeky monkeys used the lion's share of it towards my remaining debt balance:( and just sent me a cheque for a little of it. I think it was to do with them not being allowed to 'keep' the interest part of the refund. Have forgotten now what they said, must dig out their letter:o. Would have been nice to have received a cheque for the full amount to do what I like with (probably add to my F&F Fund) but I suppose it decreased my balance anyway and was money I didn't expect so I shouldn't grumble should I?. Mine is still with the original creditor too although someone else is managing the debt on their behalf these days. Would be lovely if the others review their practices in our favour too wouldn't it?:think:0 -

So insolvency is out of the question then.
If your unemployed you should tell stepchange, and your creditors, and inform them payments will resume when you find a new job.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Have not posted for sometime but wanted to let everyone who might remember me, that I am now debt free.
I am obviously delighted.
When the end came I realised how exhausting the whole process has been and I suddenly feel as though a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
Good luck to those starting, mid way or near completion of their debt free journey.
