It's only bad news if you want credit again in the future - otherwise those stupid credit reports and their codes aren't important for most of us on our DMPs. The challenge is to get those defaults in asap so that we will have a nice clean slate sooner rather than later. However, that doesn't mean we want credit facilities available to us in the future.

No, we definitely won't be wanting credit again in the future. Just wanting my credit file to look better....:)

I'm beyond caring what my credit file looks like. No-one apart from myself and existing creditors are going to look at it anyway :rotfl:

I check it every month, but that's to make sure the naff entries are correct and not double entered etc. Otherwise, credit reference files can go jump :j

    Hi

Just a quick question. My CCA request from Next has come back with the cheque returned, no acknowledgement of it being a CCA request just states Next no longer takes cheques. They’ve listed credit card payment, gift cards but presumably that would just credit my account. I’m guessing they are just being awkward. What did anyone else with Next do? Ps cash or postal order are not listed as accepted payments either!

They did the EXACT same thing to me but when I sent a postal order. Seeing as they have already defaulted me Im ignoring them until they act within their duty and provide CCA as I clearly stated. I might re request at some point but for now I!!!8217;ve had no contact over 1 month I amm saving for my full and finals. Thats just my approach though :)

    Hi

I am looking into starting a DMP. My debts ( over 3 credit cards) are around 19,000 - I have done budgets which show I will have between 80 to 100 pound per month to pay off my debts. I have used the tools on step change and this suggested a DMP over 18 years. I then had an on line chat with step change and the advisor said they only did DMP,s for 10 years but they could talk to me about other options. I live in a mortgaged home and prefer not to take on IVA etc. Can anyone advise if they would do a longer DMP ? Also just to add I am mid 50,s - another question - my current account is with Halifax and whilst I have no debt with them I do have cc debt with Mbna who I believe are part of the same banking group would this cause problems for my current account ? Thank you in advance

You can self manage your DMP and take as long as need be to pay it off. You can find all the information to help you set up your DMP step by step on the NEDCAB DMP website. It even generates the letters you need to send to creditors. Brilliant site to help you self manage and keep on top of your DMP.

You will get masses of support on this thread to help you as you go along as well. Self managing really is easy.

Hi & welcome. When we first started ours it calculated it would take just over 9 years but within a very short time we had to reduce payments due to my redundancy. This then extended the predicted DFD to over 14 years but SC never said we couldn't continue.
We have left them now to go self managed, but that was our own choice.

  • Thank you for your quick, friendly and helpful responses - I am looking at the nedcab site now
  • I hope you guys can give me some advice please.

My DMP is down to just one creditor but it!!!8217;s for quite a substantial amount of money (15k). I!!!8217;m only paying £20 via stepchange and the debt is no longer showing on my credit report as it!!!8217;s well over 6 years old. I!!!8217;m wanting to finish up with stepchange. Any advice on how best to proceed with the remaining debt?

    Thanks in advance!
