Today's a big day for me!

Started off my DMP with a massive £103k owed, and today that amount is £99k! 5 figures! So much better than 6 figures!

Well done:T. You've every reason to feel happy and proud of yourself:beer:
  • Just received a very thin envelope from Robinson-Way who are managing my Tesco debt. My heart leapt as it obviously wasn't the CCA info I'd requested way back on 19th April:j. I was hoping it was to finally confirm that the debt is unenforceable.

However, it's just to let me know that they are still seeking an update from Tesco as they have not yet received a response from them! They also thank me for my patience:rotfl:. Little do they know that I don't want Tesco to respond with documentation seeing as payments are on hold for the duration. On the other hand it would be nice to finally know one way or the other. This is one of my smaller debts, 'only' £2600ish at the moment, but anything that brings my DFD nearer is fine with me;)

Hey guys! Didn't realise we had a new home. Doh!

Long time no see. :) Hope everyone is good and keeping positive. :)

Is anyone having trouble logging into the StepChange Online DMP site? My details are correct but it keeps saying "An error has occurred with this application. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."

Also, I've missed 2 payments in a 12 month period and was told that if I miss another one then I might be taken off of my DMP. However, my next payment is due on the 10th and I'm worried that I won't be able to meet it. My benefit have changed from weekly to monthly now and because I'm used to budgeting weekly it's thrown a bit of a spanner into the works but I'm worried about talking to SC because the DMP is really working for me, but I'm just struggling at the moment due to the change and break in the money I have coming in. :(

I totally agree - only thing is Stepchange will not give you payment details. The payment details SC use are dedicated for SC accounts with creditors. When going self managed you need to contact your creditors and ask for details to set up standing order payments. Do not set up direct debits.

Otherwise..... yes, go self-managed. It's your DMP, not Stepchange's and when you are self managed you can increase or reduce your payment (or even stop them) as and when you need to.

We've been self managed since Jan 2016 and it's the best thing we ever did. We have dropped right down to token payments for over year now to allow us to save for, and to push for, full and final settlements. We are slowly getting there :)

    Thanks guys.

How stressful is going self-managed? Will the debt companies be more likely to take out CCJs against me?

You show them your budget, so that they know there getting as much as you can possibly afford to pay them.

Why go to the expense of legal action, and get no more benefit from it ?

They cant take what you dont have can they !!

Theres no reason to treat you any differently than they are now.

Tell them you are using "Morticia debt management services ltd".

Thank you. I have severe anxiety and get easily confused!

My psychiatrist did suggest trying to get the companies to write off my debt as I wasn't of sound mind when I took out the credit (I have BPD so spending is my way of coping) but I really don't want to do that as it sounds like such a cop out.

StepChange have been really good but it just feels like I'm chained to their practices and I dread to tell them if I'm struggling one month!

  • Welcome back, LadyMorticia:beer:. I thought we hadn't seen you for a while.

Sorry to hear that you had mental health issues that made your debt situation worse. I honestly don't think it's a cop out to try to get your debts written off. You obviously have some reputable medical back-up that it has been a contributary cause. If I were you I'd at least give it a try. Easy for anyone to give advice when we don't know you though so apologies for intruding:o

Going self-managed would certainly give you the flexibility that you need with your payments. There's so much help and advice all over the internet on doing it, especially NEDCAB who most of us have used, and the unfailing wisdom on this DMP support thread. Even I did it:j and there's no one more scared of their own shadow than me:o

Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck:beer:
  • Please can I ask some advice from you folks on a question that isn't altogether DMP, although a successful outcome would speed my ability to offer F&Fs and get debt free sooner:j.

I want to request all my data from one of the big banks where I had both current accounts and their own credit card. Do you know if a SAR request will result in everything they hold on me, both bank accounts and credit card? I don't want to spend more than one £10 for the info if it isn't necessary;). I ask because the addresses for bank and card departments are different, I haven't a clue who to send it to:o
