Has anyone used Anglian for an extension?

Hi apologies if there is already a thread about this type of thing, if there is, I couldn't find it. We are looking at getting an extension done across the whole of the back of our house and while browsing for ideas etc online I came across the Anglian Homes website. Some of their ideas are exactly the sort of thing we want. However I have read previously people saying they are overpriced so before ringing them I wanted to hear of any first hand experiences people may have had.
Thank you.

    This bunch -
Anglian Home Improvements is a trading name of Anglian Windows Limited. Registered office: Liberator Road, Norwich, NR6 6EU.

If so, steer well clear and get a local, established builder to do the work. Don't even think about giving Anglian a call - You'll be hounded by cold calls flogging windows/conservatories for eternity.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Yes, they will not leave you alone and they will give you the hard sell (phoning their manager and reducing the price again and again).

You also don't know how good their fitters will be as they don't have a local reputation to maintain.

An elderly gent about a mile from me took on Anglian to do a driveway. He was telling folks over a beer how wise he was, and what a good reputation Anglian had. Basically he had been taken in by all the sales spin and bulls muck. Then the work started. The reality was the job was a disaster from start to finish, and he was fleeced on money.

Go with whoever you please but step back and tell yourself do not touch Anglian with a barge pole. Trust me, it will more than likely end in disaster if you go with them.

They have about the worst name in the business,

Is it an extension or a conservatory you want? There is a difference.
  • Errm guessing the general consensus is they're not great

Looking for an extension really but for part of it quite open with lots of glass and bi fold doors.

Then in that case look for a local builder with experience installing conservatories, or if your chosen builder doesn't do that, get the builder to quote for the ground work and walls and have a local window company quote for the rest.

If it doesn't have a transparent roof then it stops being a conservatory and things get trickier planning-wise, but not impossible.

Bear in mind you need planning permission to build a conservatory more than 30m2 and that you should keep exterior quality doors between it and the house.

Find a builder through recommendation. I used check a trade and checked references and it worked out really well for us. I'm sure it go wrong but I couldn't find a recommended one from friends or family.
  • Thanks for your replies it really is an extension we want rather than a conservatory - we have one already and don't really use it so was thinking of getting that knocked down and a large room built on the back of the house. Thing is we haven't done anything like this before so not really sure how to go about it.
