Hi - have the readings been the same each time? If the meter's faulty, they should replace it, then work out an average usage and charge you that. How long have you lived there? If you lived there a while before the meter failed, then they can use old readings to estimate from, otherwise give them a reading a month or two after the meter is replaced and they can use that to work out your last year's charges.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

Hi,
You have a stopped meter. Your supplier needs to sent out an engineer to replace it (takes 20 mins) and then they will work out a new bill for you. makes sure they don't bill you further back than a year because they won't be paying consumption back out themselves!!!:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I have a similar problem with Powergen that they keep sending me letters telling me they have no details of the meter despite me phoning them and giving them the serial number THREE times and each time giving them a meter reading. They have even sent people out to look at it and read the serial number themselves and check it's ok. I have been in the house nearly 6 months and still haven't received any bill. Every time I call them they tell me they have no record of me or my meter readings (even though they managed to send me letters with my name on!). I am dreading the bill when it does finally arrive, and unfortunately I don't have the meter reading from when I moved in.
I bought the house from my sister and she had no probs with Powergen (I just kept the same supplier) and neither did the people before that.
I am going to phone them again, voice my concerns, again, and if I don't have a satisfactory conclusion within 4 weeks I will be reporting them to ofgen and changing my supplier."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Hi Annie&Caseyma!
You have a very different problem to the original post. Your supplier just hasn't got your meter details on file.
The issue you have about not being on record and the meter being there should be pretty asy to correct. You could always call the local distributor and ask for MPAS. Give them your address and they will confirm your meter number as held and give you your MPAN. Then contact your supplier with it and they can instantly trace you.
I would sort it before you change suppliers because incorrect meter numbers will affect your new supplier so you may end up with it with both of them!!!:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I appreciate that it is a different problem but I will end up with a similar billing problem. They have been given all the meter details time and time again and I am at the stage where I am getting extremely ratted with them! They even tried to tell me that the meter services didn't have any record of it......the house is 10 years old and it is the original meter so I don't know how when for 9 years the residents had no problems! IMO it is now pure incompetency on behalf of the staff that the correct details are not uptodate and that they still can't find me when I phone but can send out letter with my name on repeatedly telling me about the meter!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Thanks for the help the meter was put in new as we had to convert the building and as such not much electricity would have been used in the beginning. They had been round and checked the meter themselves and now know that it has to be changed but hey still no meter man. if they only had say 1months readings before it broke they would use those readings even they would be higher now. I dont want to pay for more than ive actualy used.0
