Hi Guys
I havent had a credit card for nearly 16 years as ive been trying to avoid in order to get debt free which I almost am.
But I do know credit cards are a good thing when buying things and being covered e.g. plane tickets I also remember my dad buying an engine and because it was dodgey and the seller said it wasnt and wouldnty except returns the credit card company just refunded the money.
So I am thniking of getting one just for this purpose is it a good idea, and which is the best type to go for ?
Thanks in advance

All credit cards will protect you under s75 as long as you have sufficient proof0 -
Credit cards are not a good thing if you are prone to debt, so you really need to think hard about getting this line of credit and admitting to yourself you are able to resist it.
Many people take on credit cards with the I'll be al right attitude and then very easily still get into the vicious circle. When I say many that's an understatement.
The new iphone's out, ill just stick it on the CC and pay it next month, been there done that and spent years getting out of it.
Careful planning and due diligence can be effective when purchasing anything. S75 is not a money back guarantee, you need to prove a breach of contract for that so ask yourself what's the chances of the airline you choose going bust or how many major purchases you are going to do that you would need to contemplate a S75 claim.
Get debt free, concentrate on that then have a think if you would really like to spiral into that again.
Being debt free sets you free, believe me I know.0 -
Ok thanks guys maybe Ill leave it for now as you are right regarding debt.0

When going on holiday you should be taking out travel insurance for flights and hotels, S75 is a nice lifeline but can be an issue if you are booking via a 3rd party rather than direct with airlines / hotels - travel insurance is the key thing.
Not to say a CC is a bad idea, a 0% purchase card would allow you to pay off the holiday over a year at 0% rather than up frontSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
