What's the sound volume like on an Amazon Fire?

Evenin' all.
My hudl is beginning to fall over so I thought I'd look into the cheap Fire that's on offer for £34.99 at the moment. I'm sure it's fine for my basic purposes, however the only - and only - thing I don't like about my hudl is the volume. I know many reviews mentioned this when the hudl first came out. I really struggle to hear talking books in particular and wondered if anyone has a Fire and could tell me what they think of the volume.
I've just loved the hudl and am really disappointed that Tesco haven't brought out any further models.
