Bank says they cannot find your account. What to do next?

Options
I am after some help from the savvy out there.

I have submitted PPI reclaims based on information I had got from my old credit files. In all cases these dated back to mid 90's through to early 2000's. I was able to give my full details, including the address I was living at, the date the loan commenced, how much I was paying. However, I do not have any paperwork or account numbers. Additionally I was claiming for lenders that had been taken over, Alliance & Leister (Santander) and Woolwich (Barclays). Not surprisingly I have received responses that based on the information provided they cannot find any record of my account. Am I being fed a line? Have I gone as far as I can?

What do I do next? I have read that companies have an arrangement with banks where they can get the account details, but not sure if that is right. Should I employ them? Not really wanting to though.

Any advice appreciated.

Am I being fed a line?

Unlikely if these are closed accounts. Data does get destroyed on closed accounts (typically 6+ years but some longer)

No. Any company telling you that is committing fraud through misrepresentation. Your data is between you and the bank.

If you dont believe them, spend £10 and do a data subject access request.
