In our shared ownership house, we don't need anyones permission to own a pet.
  • It will depend on the lease, which will be different for different housing associations. Ask the people you are considering buying from for a coy of the lease you'll have to sign, and read it carefully. Ours had a strict no farm animals clause, but cats and dogs were fine, but yours might say something different.

We have a shared ownership apartment. The contract states 'The occupier must gain written consent (except for a cat, dog or caged bird) from 'housing association' to keep an animal at the property....

We recently got a letter saying, 'housing association would like to remind residents that no pets are allowed to be kept in the scheme without prior written consent please refer to clause x.x.x 'The occupier must gain written consent (except for a cat, dog or caged bird) from 'housing association' to keep an animal at the property'

As with most of these management companies they are an absolute shambles! Just check the wording carefully on your lease
