O/S Daily Saturday 25 March 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot but we've had a frost. I have a wash load ready to put on the line, I'll do that before I leave for work, I got a big line full line dried yesterday.
DH up and getting ready for work, I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here, will then get showered and ready for work also. Both boys still in their pits, DS2 wants to go to the gym this morning, so I'll give him a lift to where I work and he'll walk from there and then walk home once he's had a workout.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight will be pizza, breaded chicken, onion rings, stuffed jacket potatoes, side salad etc.
Was more productive yesterday got the ironing done, ran the hoover over the carpets, cleaned both bathrooms, cleaned the kitchen, picked up the replacement telephone - but that isn't going to work so I'm taking that back today and I'm picking up a replacement, that hopefully we'll have operational by the end of the day. Didn't get any baking/cooking done though as ran out of time.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, we are meant to have a sunny day today, I do hope so as I am already on the second load of washing this morning. Yesterday's load of towels dried well.
I am having a battle with the toaster. I took out the crumb tray and cleaned it, then unplugged it and shook it out upside down but there are still crumbs and I can see some and hear others rattling about. I'll have another go and if that doesn't work, I might swear at it.
I want to make a nice loaf and am going to look at the Panasonic thread. The last loaf I made was a walnut loaf, it was very heavy though it did make fabulous toast. I thought the previous one was good, in fact delicious, but DS said it was too dense. OH and I ate it, but then OH would probably eat it if green with mould , he'd say it was wasteful not to.
I've got to patch DS's favourite jeans, I can't do that until they are dry. Must take shower head off and give it a soak in white vinegar, clean the bath AGAIN and Hoover round for the umpteenth time this week.
So I'm achieving all this by sitting about with a cup of tea, my new method!
When OH gets up, he will go shopping and he will cook as he always does on Saturday. I shall have a piece of salmon and they will have huge quantities of meat. I have fish most Saturdays now since he got bored with watching me struggle to eat the meat.
All week, OH has been laughing at adverts from Mr. M which suggest either a box of bottles of Guinness or craft beers for Mothering Sunday. I dislike beer, always have so he thinks this is the most hilarious tease. He is now incensed at TV adverts for various Sunday roasts for Mothering Sunday, yelling at the TV because, he says, that means that the mum is then expected to cook it. His new found feminist sympathies butter no parsnips with me because I always cook the Sunday meal anyway.
Hope you all have a good day, I had better start getting on with things.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning folks and thanks NMLC. And thanks also AOD for cheering me up with your dry sense of humour!
Another day of blue sky and sunshine ahead so DD and I are going over to the caravan to finally give it a good clean inside after the winter and make it habitable. They willl be going for Easter week as they always do but until the nights warm up a bit I don't think we will be going any time soon!
DS and Mr TA got the couple of jobs done outside yesterday. One was building the front wall back up at the drive end (a mystery what caused the collapse) and, secondly, blocking the tiniest gap in the fascias where a starling was intent on squeezing itself in to build a nest in the loft! Then DS got the brakes on his car sorted.
Mr TA's lunch is defrosting - a Sainsbob's Spaghetti Carbonara (ys of course) and I shall make myself a picnic to take for our lunch break. No DGDs coming to hinder us either! DD's bf is amusing the eldest and the youngest and Mr TA is taking the middle one for her dance class and picking her back up again.
Have a good day all and hope the sun is shining on you. (HUGS) for all the poorlies, sad and worried who want one. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
It was a busy old day yesterday, down to the airport for 9.55 and collected my friend. We then drove into Glasgow so I could buy yet another curtain track which I did very quickly. I decided that, as it was such a beautiful day, I'd drive home the scenic route right along the Holy Loch / Garelochhead which joins the A83 again at Arrochar.
Once home we drank tea and chatted for ages. Then my lovely neighbour came back to put the the curtain track and curtain. He'd been in during the day to paint the batten. Now, eventually, the track and curtain are up. I'm not sure if it will make a huge difference at the front door but it looks great, the test will come next winter!
There are birds twittering outside again, haven't heard them for ages. Today we're going on a short'ish boat trip see seals and, if the tide is right, the Corryvrekan whirlpool.
I hope everyone has a great Saturday too.0 -
Morning All
And what a beautiful morning it is too. The bedding is in the WM, it'll be the first time I've put washing out this year so hope it dries.
Collected a bag from the shoe menders yesterday, the strap was about to fall off, he made a good job and only charged £3.50. Bumped into an old friend and we went for a coffee, quite unexpected but good to catch up.
Some windows got cleaned yesterday inside and out, will do the rest today. I have friends coming for dinner, must decide what to cook!
Hope things are better in your house today dumpling.
Enjoy your boat trip Gers.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -

tiredmum Oh no, I hope you're OK x A while back Scampi got in a tizz and ran around me, wrapping his lead around my legs – I went flying but luckily a man caught me before I hit the pavementHow's Dolly getting on with her training?
I wanted to go out yesterday and get mum some flowers for tomorrow but I could hardly move so I stayed home. There's a flower stall at the farmer's market on fridays, they do lovely bouquets so I'm a bit miffed. I have two florists near me, I've used one before but not the other, I'll visit them both and see what they have.
I'm going to be careful again today, I'm going to put the washing machine on, vacuum the lounge and fill some small pots with compost. If I get those things done, I'll consider it a very busy and productive day

Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Its a bit foggy here just now, we are off on a jolly today. We are going to visit Hard up Hester on her boat, they are up at the marina getting her ready to take her down to their permanent mooring during the Easter hols. I am quite excited, we would love to have bought a narrow boat ourselves but no way could we afford it.
My quilting friend is off to Cyprus tomorrow, we are lending her a stick to use whilst she is away, so will call and see her on the way.
The forecast is for a nice day, so here's hoping. I packed up ham and mustard rolls last night, so a picnic safely in the cool bag, we will stop somewhere and have lunch before travelling on to the Marina. It may involve a visit to a quilt shop!!
The lamb for tomorrow is out, when we get home I will stud it with garlic and put it in a roasting bag with some red wine, I use the wine to make the gravy.0 -
Morning all,
Beautiful bright day here with a good breeze the wm will be earning its keep today.
OH has gone to the boot sale and dd stayed over at her friends last night, Im not sure but I think her young man might be coming down today.
Once OH is back we will wizz round the house and give it a quick clean then get out with Evie its too nice to be indoors there is a local hill where a lot of dog walkers go so we will go there, our old darling dog was extremely reactive to other dogs and we had to take her to remote places, so its nice to see Evie mixing with others.
Dinner tonight will (I think ) be Mary Berrys Orzo recipe which is supposed to be with baby broad beans lemon and thyme, but I could not get broad beans so have got some asparagus, it looked really tasty on her programme the other night so we will see !
OH will be outside with his chainsaw cutting logs later, I shall supervise from the sofa
Have good days all xxx0 -
Morning all
Up with the larks this morning mind i was in bed by 9.30pm I have been to the butchers and collected DS from the station as well as walked Dolly by 9am now just doing all the washing .
Tru i am fine just my shoulder is hurting i think luckily i had the dog lead in my hand so i didn't put my arms out to stop me falling thank goodness as i dont need a plaster cast before going on holibobs training is going ok but socialisation has gone backwards as she has started nipping at other dogs who wont chase her so muzzle back on she was very odd on thursday night and did 2 weeks indoors which has never happened before she was also very subdued so will see how that goes wether it was the muzzle or me falling i am not sure
Hugs to all who need them and have a great day x0 -
Good Morning everyone and Yay the sun is shining and although a bit nippy its bright and dry at least.
Had a great night out at the Murder Mystery evening which came with a delicious dinner as well.Great fun and I highly recommend it to anyone for a light hearted evening out away from the TV and all that goes with Red Cross night.I am happy to donate but find all the 'celebs' a bit hard going to be honest ,especially as I haven't a clue who many of them are anyway:):)
Yesterday one of my DDs Mums days presents arrived and its the book I have wanted for ages its the Muffins Fast and Fantastic by Susan Reimer and this morning I shall be making apple and cinnamon onesI shall be happily pottering around all day indoors as I think of Saturdays as my day off from all the rest of the week when I am rushing around doing other things
I shall probably make a fruit cake as well as I will have the oven on and maybe some cookies for my DGS.My friend from dartford is coming down on Monday and we are going to Sittingbourne as I want to order my new car. It takes three months from ordering before I get it, and I change my car every three years as I lease it,lot cheaper than buying one I have found. So we may have lunch out on Monday as she has never been to sittingbourne before and there is a nice little tea shop there that do nice light lunches .
Tuesday I have a Drs appointment in the morning about my hearing as its not very good and my DDs have bullied me into going Its never been brilliant but as I get older its getting worse, followed by a coffee morning in Dobbies with U3A .
Tuesday night I have a 'meet the author' night in Rochester with some friends so I will have the night off from quiz night Its quite a busy week next week as the following week I am away with DD and the family down to our beloved IoW for 5 days .I do enjoy my Saturdays though as I switch off the door bell and mobile and have a bit of 'me' time:):)
Hope you all have a good day and the sun shines down on you where ever you are
Cheers chums

Good morning everyone....its a lovely sunny morning here too. I've cleaned bathrooms, hoovered , done some ironing and got towels out on the line so I'm feeling well organised.
Feeling a bit old today as its my youngest DDs 18th birthday today. We've been sitting looking at photo albums...don't really know where the times gone! We're going out for a meal at lunchtime....it has to be lunchtime so granddad can come. DD is very close to her granddad and wouldn't have her birthday celebration without him. He has dementia and it can be quite difficult to have a change in his routine. Then back to mums for birthday cake. DD and her boyfriend are going out later.
Looking forward to it.0
