Peugeot PPI rejected as claim it was taken at a later date

Hi
had PPI with peugeot finance from back in 2006. At the time the dealer told me it was compulsory in order to get the finance approved as I was a student nurse (and needed the car to travel for my training).
Anyways, submitted all the forms and evidence but they've rejected my claim as the PPI box was unticked on the finance form. They claim as PPI wasn't taken at the time (they claim within 14 days) and purchased separately that i could not have been mis-sold. I can't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure that the dealer got me to fill a form out when i came back to pick up the car, and submitted it for me. Just confused here as they've told me its not misselling, even though i pointed out at the time that I could make payments if necessary from savings or from parents.
Any help appreciated, but i'm guessing since its my word against theirs I'm out of luck.
Thanks!

It may be that they did not mis-sell but the finance provider did (i.e. the dealer submitted it without the finance provider called you and you agreed to it later on)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Can you just clarify who you sent your complaint to, was it the dealer or the finance company? Which dealer was this? Who was the PPI with? To whom were you paying the PPI premium?0 -
Sent to the finance company - Peugeot finance, they were who i had the PPI with and paid0

However, it sounds like they dealt with your complaint because you took up the insurance at a later date. This indicates it was mis-bought (if not suitable) and your claim that you were told it was compulsory has no validity.
I suspect if the dealer was Peugeot and the finance was through Peugeot then OP is probably fine - maybe why they have looked at it rather than bouncing it.
I'd imagine also Peugeot finance rang after to offer the PPI along with other insurances like GAP etc
As it is, as you say the complaint is weak, paying from savings is not a defence - if you had savings, why pay interest on a car loan which will always be more than you get from savings - if the savings are there for an emergency like losing a job would they really prioritise car over say council tax or mortgage / food? Similarly with the parents, saying you would need to rely on them indicates a need for PPI - no guarantee the parents would have the funds ready and available to make paymentsSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Incidentally, you'd have to prove your savings at the time exceeded the price of the car. In which case why not buy the car outright and save massively on interest? The likelihood of your parents bailing you out if in trouble is irrelevant since they weren't guarantors.0
