Appreciate a heads up. My youngest has been looking to buy his first car for a few weeks and has spotted a Focus 1.0 ecoboost at EH. He was determined to look at it the other day and against my advise he has left a deposit (was told this was refundable if he didn't close).

I'm going to cast an eye over it but as this isn't a car I'm familiar with I'd appreciate a heads up. I have a decent mechanical background but nevertheless I'd appreciate views on the car re weak points, timing belt intervals etc. The vehicle is a 2012.

ive recently been looking at EH however the one thing that put me off is the T&C's to get a deposit back.

for example once the car arrives you need to go and look at it within two working days, which may not work for me due to shift work, and if you dont want the car you have to let EH know that day or you wont get your deposit back, and i have no evidence of this, but i had a vision of not being able to get through and bang goes the deposit

The vehicle is at a local branch.

What's the story with the optional £99 admin fee, didn't make sense, what am I missing?

Basically with EH you pay the price on the screen and pay the admin fee. That's it. If you're lucky, they'll throw in an interior protection spray.

Having said that, they do price match (although I bet they will have small print meaning they don't have to).

The salesman told him the £99 was optional.

Wouldn't move on screen price but did move significantly on finance.

  • They get a bad press but I found them excellent to deal with (Middlesbrough branch). I can give you chapter and verse if interested

    Ok.
My mum bought a micro from them. Brand new. I went with her to choose it. It was a lot more than at another dealer a bit further away. They matched the price without any haggling. Score one

Mum did not want to drive to Middlesbrough to collect the car so they delivered it and took the part exchange away. Score two.

Sadly we lost mum six months later and so transferred the car to my son. There was a three year servicing plan which mum had paid for. The Nissan t&c said it was not transferable to a new owner. We argued it stating it had not been sold on. EH fully backed us and argued it out with Nissan on our behalf. Score three.

Overall I found them excellent to deal with.

    7) At that time the Customer must make an appointment not more than two Working Days (or such other time as may be agreed in writing by Evans Halshaw) from that notification to attend the Chosen Evans Halshaw Dealership to view the Vehicle. so not necessary two working days..

I've had two bad experience with them..not ever going to buy from them ever!!
    1) booked a viewing at local as it was transferred from Manchester.
viewing the car..I ask, has it been in an accident or had a bump..answer.no we don't take any cars that had an accident..you can tell if its been in an accident, look at the bonnet fitting, it should be in line..so I point out that this isn't in line, its bend badly..and a few colour scratches on the side..answer...ohh..it has been in an accident..oh sorry..this car shouldn't have been shown at all to customers!! wasted my time! he said..if it was me, I won't buy this car too!!

    2) booked car for a viewing on sat..arrive there and we had to do all the paperwork because I said I wanted a P/X..why not view the car first and do paperwork after..this way is quicker!! what the f*&^..anyway, 1 hr later..lets get the keys for the car..10 mins pass..can't find the key..someone has put the key in the safe..which won't be open till Monday morning!! what the f*&^^* ....why was it put in the safe??"" I complained..but it was useless..wanted to find out why and who..ohh the man has just left the company..so can't get the answer why he put the keys in the safe!!!!
currently at the stage 2 of the complaint stage but I won't be holding my breathe as I haven't had any news back for ages.

The £99 admin fee is optional, you don't have to pay it. (You can point blank refuse to pay it ... if they insist then say No Deal). The £99 is a gullibility charge ... it costs EH nothing and goes straight on to the profit margin.
