Asda online thread

I shop exclusively online at Asda.
Reason, you can get delivery for £2 (albeit late at night) and the £40 min order is about right for me as I shop twice a month and aim to spend £90 per month (I actually have a 'global' monthly budget of £120 but I'm trying to squeeze that down to £90 so I can save £30), hence that's £45 per delivery, I also don't have a car so can't really shop around and there's only a Waitrose in walking distance and I consider Waitrose expensive.
The £90 (£45 every two and a bit weeks) monthly shop is approximately broken down as follows:
Cat £22
Toiletries/Kitchen Stuff £10
Food/Drink £54
£4 delivery charge
The purpose of this thread is to precisely track my spend and squeeze/maximise it and show how it's done on almost an order by order basis (every two and a bit weeks).
If anyone can help me that would be great but again it must be Asda online, I can't go bargain hunting in Morrisons, then nip down Aldi. I'm sort of confined to online Asda. I could jump ship completely (online) but I'm generally happy with Asda online.
If anyone can learn from me or thinks this is quite good and wants to join me well that's great.
I'm going to be very precise here and really try to squeeze/maximise this 'process' and go through my thought processes and what I can do to get the most out of this 'process'.
Obviously the budget is very tight.

I'd use Lidl if you possibly could for cat food
Their grain free wet food 100grm sachets is I think £1.69 for 12 and their litter is around £2 for 10kg, a saving of around £10 a month
I personally don't shop in Asda for two reasons, A, they aren't cheap, and B, they usually only stock imported meat ( my Asda only sells Danish pork and bacon and I know for a fact their chicken is polish and I'd not even hazard where the beef and lamb is from, but other Asdas may differ)0 -
OK that's a reasonable point worth considering further .....
Lidl doesn't do online/delivery, so I've got a problem, I can't do my whole shop at Lidl, it's just impractical and I like online shopping.
With respect to the cat what I could do is ditch Asda re the cat and once a month my dad could take me to Lidl in his car on a once a month run, it's close and my dad sees me every week.
So what's my saving.....
The cat has 60 pouches a month. 2 a day. Your price is 14.5p per sachet my price at Asda is 16.6p per sachet saving 2.1p per sachet. A saving of £1.30 per month. Actually you have just saved me money because looking at prices on Asda I pay £10 for 44 (felix), but doing this process I've identified 12 for £2 (£10 for 60), being Asda Tiger Cat pouches.
In terms of cat litter mine is wood pellet which I like (2.78 for 10l), but actually what I'll do is substitute the cheapest ASDA smart litter at £1.55 for 10l and say use 4 a month. Saving say £5 a month. Yours is actually more expensive by say £1.8.
There's no real gain going to Lidl and as soon as I move just the cat stuff, I won't be able to order from Asda because I wouldn't be able to meet the minimum spend requirements and its hastle going to Lidl.
It made me reprice at Asda, which is good. My cat spend is now.....
60 pouches Asda Tiger Cat pouches 12 X 100 (£2 each). £10 p/m.
4 x Asda smart litter 10l £1.55 each £6.2 p/m
Total £16.20 per month, initial budget £22, so I've just saved by repricing at Asda once you identified I was over paying. £5.8 a month to spend on food.
But I can't see a move to Lidl is at present worthwhile and it's somewhat impractical.
Thank you anyway you've just saved me £5.8 a month.0 -
So i'll post links to the cat stuff.....
Cat pouches....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/gravy-pouches/asda-tiger-cat-pouches-meat-favourites-in-gravy/910000448052
A bit more expensive than lidl.
Cat litter....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/cat-litter-accessories/asda-smartprice-cat-litter/20564
Actually looks a bit cheaper than Lidl.
In terms of quality well I don't think the cat will complain.
Budget for the cat set at £16.20 per month, don't think i'm going to do significantly better and again i'm sort of tied to Asda.0 -
Now lets move into the kitchen (and have a whiz round the living and bedroom), but ignore the bathroom largely.......
What do I need....
Well what I can survive on this.....
Washing Up Liquid.
Scourers.
Air freshner
Wet Wipes for cleaning
Dusters
Polish
Washing Up liquid....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/washing-up-liquid/asda-washing-up-liquid-red-berry/910001273197
50p every two weeks £1 a month. Can probably drop this off every so often so saving 50p every two weeks, but £1 a month is reasonable.
Scourers....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/gloves-sponges-cloths/asda-smartprice-sponge-scourers/910001169858
20p a month, 8 in packet, say 1 scourer a week, 40p every two months.
Air freshner.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/aerosols-room-sprays/glade-5-in-1-air-freshener-spray-magnolia-vanilla/910001473561
£1.2 a month, go round once a week, I don't go mad with this sort of stuff.
Wet wipes.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/cleaning-wipes/asda-all-purpose-surface-cleaning-wipes-anti-bacterial-lemon/910002526036
£1 a month, I use these for everything, kitchen, bathroom, tiled floors, 80 in a packet, say 2 a day is about right on a daily basis, with 20 a month left-over for big cleans (floors). Thats a good price for 80, Morrisons charge £2 for 80.
Dusters....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/gloves-sponges-cloths/asda-smartprice-dusters/1378171
34p a month, say 1 pack every other month, 68p per month. Actually can drop this off every so often probably only use 1 duster a month at most.
Furniture polish......
https://groceries.asda.com/product/polishes/asda-multi-surface-furniture-polish/910001117615
50p per month, 1 can every other month, I only live in a one bedroom flat and only do the furniture say every few weeks. A can will easily last me two months.
Cost.
Washing up liquid £1 per month.
Scourers 20p per month
Air freshner £1.20 per month
Wet wipes £1 per month
Furniture polish 50p per month.
Cost per month £4 per month.0 -
Now were into the bathroom (and personal hygiene).....
By the way i've ignored laundry for a minute i'll come to that at the end with a miscellaneous items sort things I only buy every few months catch all.
I've got wet wipes for the bathroom in Kitchen, so cleaning is partly taken care of.
I need.........
Soap
Toothpaste
Mouthwash
Toilet rolls
Hairspray
Bubble bath
Shower Gel
Shampoo
Nivea cream (like to keep the wrinkles at bay)
Shavers
Shaving Cream
Body Spray
Bleach
I've got enough aftershave to last me a lifetime from various XMAS gifts from years gone by.
Soap....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/bar-soap/imperial-leather-original-soap-bars/910000471228
One of them will last me a month, 4 for £1.60, hence 40p per month.
Toothpaste.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/view-all-toothpaste/colgate-cool-stripe-fluoride-toothpaste/910001278855
Well I might get through 2 a month, only 75ml, so i'll budget for that but i'll probably drop off every so often. So say £1.60 per month.
Mouthwash.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/regular-mouthwash/asda-pure-hygiene-family-mouthwash/910002001993
I like mouthwash, so i'll go for 4 a month, but again I might drop off every so often, 47p a bottle say £2 per month.
Toilet rolls........
https://groceries.asda.com/product/medium-toilet-roll-912-rolls/asda-smart-price-toilet-roll/910001347080
A 6pk should keep me going for the month so a £1 a month.
Hairspray.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/hairspray/asda-extra-firm-hold-hairspray/80772513
Not mad on this sort of stuff but like a bit, say 2 at 65p each, a month that's £1.30.
Bubble bath.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/bubble-bath/asda-fruit-burst-bath-foam/910001700470
I alternate between baths and showers (more baths), say every three days either a bath or shower, 2 of these a month should keep me happy. 75p a bottle, say £1.50 a month.
Shower Gel
https://groceries.asda.com/product/shower-gel/asda-moisture-sensitive-shower-gel/910002551833
I have more baths than showers, just one bottle a month at 45p.
Shampoo........
https://groceries.asda.com/product/shampoo/alberto-balsam-sunkissed-raspberry-shampoo/910002264483
One will keep me going a month £1.
Nivea cream....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/body-moisturiser/nivea-creme-cream-tub/19756
Don't use loads, just occasionally, one a month, £1.
Shavers.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/mens-disposable-razors/asda-mens-2-blade-disposable-razors/910001719478
That will keep me going 2 months, 75p per month.
Shaving cream......
https://groceries.asda.com/product/mens-shaving-gel-foam-oil/asda-mens-shaving-foam-ocean-breeze/910002050679
That will last me a month £1.
Body Spray....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/mens-bodysprays/asda-mens-body-spray-ice/910002017618
2 a month, £2, don't go mad with sort of stuff, say after a bath/shower.
Bleach.....
https://groceries.asda.com/product/bleach-disinfectants/asda-thick-bleach-original/910001537913
1 of those will do, 65p.
Thats should be that for toiletries/personal hygiene, I feel i've overspent here, so lets see....
Soap 40p
Toothpaste £1.60
Mouthwash £2
Toilet rolls £1
Hairspray £1.30
Bubble bath £1.50
Shower Gel £1
Shampoo £1
Nivea cream (like to keep the wrinkles at bay) £1
Shavers 75p
Shaving Cream £1
Body Spray £2
Bleach 75p
Total £15.30
Massive overspend here
So lets tot up before food and sundry.....
Cat £16.20
Kitchen £4
Toiletries/personal hygiene £15.30
Total say £35
I'd initially budgeted for Cat £22 and Bathroom/Toilet £10, Total £32.
So i'm £3 over, overall before food, which is ok because i've got a lot of personal hygiene stuff out of that lot.0 -
small saving but do you need disposable dusters? if you have any old t/shirts that could be ripped up they could be used & re-used after washing them.
I find also that the old-fashioned yellow dusters leave little bits behind - and don't try washing them, unless on their own, the yellow dye bleeds like crazy!0 -
if you are really trying to be frugal you don't actually "need" shower gel or bubble bath. You have soap and it will wash you in the shower or in the bath. If you have aftershave, you could use it and swap your body spray for deodorant. Have you tried those cheap razors? They may not suit your skin or beard. I'm not using them, just been listening to males.0
-
I've had a flit through your lists, and to be honest you have a lot of stuff which is totally unnecessary. They are want's not needs. Air fresheners, wet wipes, dusters! What about opening windows to let fresh air in, tearing up an old towel to make cleaning rags and dusters. For goodness sake, don't flush your wet wipes down the toilet, they create havoc at the sewerage treatment plants.
If you limit yourself to shop at one place for everything you will not be able to save much money.
IlonaI love skip diving.0 -
Isn't Asda a £25 minimum spend? That's why I mainly do online shops there instead of Tesco.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
-
Your single shopping list for household goods is probably my annual list - and I'd still remove a few items.
Those dusters, say ... you buy a pack of dusters and they last YEARS.0
